iTunes 10 not playing music

Hi all!

I just upgraded to iTunes 10 and no music is playing either in my library or in the iTunes store whatsoever. iTunes recognizes the length of the song, and I can move the progress bar, but hitting play results in not playing. The progress bar doesn't move, and the song is not playing. Before you mention it... YES, I'm sure the player is not on "pause" or "stop". 🙂

I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, and tried the "forget all remotes" process that other forums had mentioned, but nothing appears to be working.

Help pls! (I'm running Vista 32-bit)

Keep scrolling until you see Badmannie's fix for this problem. It works like a charm! I hate apple, and I'm totally suffering Zune withdrawals. Badmannie, you should change your ID to UDaMannie! I hate itunes. I want to stomp on my ipuke and I'm going back to my Zune! It may not take pictures, but my EVO 3D does and it is way better than any apple POS! NEVER AGAIN!! I have had nothing but headaches with this!!! I have never had such a worse case of buyers remorse in my life!

I was going nuts with this same problem. In my case, I had a bunch of iTunes plugins that were no longer compatible that integrated with the player itself (and thus QTX). Once I got rid of these, all problems with iTunes and QTX cleared up.

I then went on a rampage and rid my system of all non-compatible software and third-party apps and plugins that I had accumulated over the years (and which had simply carried over with each previous OS X upgrade). Haven't had any problems since. I also made a note of which developers had planned on upgrades to become Lion compatible so I can keep track of them.

First suggestion to all - ELIMINATE all your out-of-date or non-compatible third-party apps and plugins!😝

I was having the same issue. Couldn't work it out... but then I realised I connected another audio device (Creative Wireless speakers) via bluetooth just before this issue happened... and that seems to have been the issue.

The bluetooth speakers were switched off, however iTunes seemed to keep trying to use this device... and nothing was playing. No movies, tv shows, or music. Just a blank black screen.

I disconnected the bluetooth device (stop using this audio device) and everything is working fine now. Hope that helps some of you. I was concerned for a little while... it's Sunday morning and the kids need some TV time... I'm glad it was so simple. Good luck.

My iTunes music nor iTunes store would play music, although my music would play in Quicktime Version 10.1. I couldn't find the same tabs that was referenced in prior post. While I was having the exact issues as every one else, it seems my solution is different.

I recently got Apple TV, where you can stream your iTunes onto your TV. However, when you want to revert back to playing music on your computer, you must have the output selected correctly.

I did so by using the "Remote" Apple TV app and selecting which song I wanted to play and directed it to play on my computer. Now all my songs are playing without the use of the remote. I'll just have to remember that the next time I play music through the TV, I'll need to change the output to revert back to my computer when I'm done.
