How to remove ping from itunes (Version10)

Until Apple provide a checkbox, there is only one way to remove Ping from the sidebar in iTunes 10 (so far as I know).

Enter the iTunes preferences, go to Parental, disable the Store. Ping goes (and so does the store).

If you want to access the store in the future then you can by re-enabling it.

Apple, if you are listening, why oh why do you add something to the sidebar without a way of removing it? For people who don't want Ping all you have done is force the stuff they do use (playlists) further down the page.

As UI specialists, you really should know better!!!

as a bonus, not having the store visible means you won't have the temptation to buy stuff you don't need. If enough people disable the store, maybe, just maybe, Apple will give a checkbox to remove ping (just like they do for radio, podcasts, tv etc).

Hope this helps others.

I could live with those stupid, useless Ping buttons on the left and in the store (I DO want to get rid of them, too) but the thing that breaks the camel's back is that I have a stupid Ping button IN EVERY ROW OF MY LIBRARY. I don't ever want to tell others what I listen to, nor do I want to hear about this dumbest idea from Apple, ever.

I'll keep asking for a solution until one is provided. I've sent feedback and I will keep doing it until I get a response I like - which is a checkbox in the preferences allowing me to completely disable Ping. Keep it in the store for all I care, but my library is my library, and no ping is coming to screw it up for me.

I purchased a 1-month Spotify membership - I'll be using it for the duration because I can't be arsed to use iTunes as long as the Ping buttons mess it all up. If it's fixed, I may come back. If not, I'll just find something that actually works. :P

Right Ari
Well said ,Apple looks in on these forums and there's a lot of negative noise about Ping.

As for fixing it in Terminal ,I really , REALLY don't like to mess around in Terminal.
In the next update (or two) Apple will let us hide this.
I almost feel sorry for the team that came up with this idea.
They're probably sweating serious bricks! :o

I don't mind the terminal. I just used the command line in Windows to clean up the Ping buttons and it didn't kill me. The ironic thing is, Apple believes they encourage use of the new features by leaving out the option to turn them off. For me at least, it's quite the opposite - if there was a preference, I might play with it before turning it off. Since there isn't, first thing I look for is a hack, and once it's off, it STAYS off.

And?
"Apple Discussions is a user-to-user support forum".
If you have suggestions, send them here -> http://www.apple.com/feedback/

And? And this:

Many of us have already submitted feedback to Apple. That's one way to let 'em know what we think. If we also post in these forums, other bloggers will see, take note, and help spread the word around the web. That's another, and maybe more effective way to bring pressure on Apple to hear what MANY users are saying. We are sick and tired of Apple ramming changes down users' throats with no notice, and no options to choose what we want in our programs. I don't want or need Steve Jobs telling me what's good for me and not good for me when it comes to computer use. I stopped using Apple products years ago because of that, and only recently came back because I was impressed with the iPhone and iPad and hoped that maybe things were different...they ain't. Given the continuing Jobsian cult that I find still permeates Apple, I'm right on the verge of leaving again....this time for good.
