IPad VGA adapter, picture is dull & pink connected to my projector

I'm having a problem with my VGA connector, and I desperately need a fresh point of view in this issue.

When I connect my iPad to my projector, the picture has a dull reddish, pinkish hue to it. This is true for everything- video app, Netflix, slideshows, etc.

connection path:
IPad -> Dock/VGA plug -> VGA cable -> VGA to DVI-A adapter -> Projector DVI-I input (both DVI-A and D)

When I remove my projector and DVI-I adapter from the equation, and plug the VGA cable into a computer monitor, everything looks great. Also, I've tried replacing my iPad in the equation with other computers that have a VGA output, and they all work with the DVI-A adapter and the projector.

So far, my assumption was that something was going on with the iPad and the DVI-A adapter, but I've tried three different adapters, and I get the same results.

I'm completely stumped. Any ideas?

The original pOst included;
"Also, I've tried replacing my iPad in the equation with other computers that have a VGA output, and they all work with the DVI-A adapter and the projector."

Therefore, the projector/DVI-A adopter seem OK.

Could it be the projector? Can you plug in another device into the projector? Can you plug the iPad into a monitor?

Right, the projector is fine, because I've attached other PCs and MACs using the same VGA to DVI-A connection.

At this point, all I can think of is that the Apple's dock/VGA connector somehow doesn't pass a signal that is compatible with a DVI-A adapter. I don't know how that would be since I thought DVI-A was just a VGA signal sent to different pin configurations for a DVI connector.

Maybe someone that knows how these connections work in detail can chime in on this.

Actually, I'd love to hear from anyone going from the iPad VGA connector to DVI-A.

Thanks David, but that didn't work for me. I still get the pink/dull screen. I'm convinced that is is an incompatibility with the Apple iPad VGA adapter and DVI-A adapters.

I give up on this. I returned my adapter and all the cables. The new Apple TV costs less than all of that put together. I'm going to get one of those for streaming movies to my projector.

The only concerns I have with the new Apple Tv are... Does it play the Keynote app and third party apps that either plays videos or can be sent to a Tv/computer screen. Something like GoodRead. I dough it.

I like to get the Apple Tv... If it can't do what I mention above it's not for me. It would be nice to hook the Apple Tv to a projector and have the iPad cable free to give a keynote presentation.

Things to think about this time around.

Late reply I know, but I was googling for iPhone pink VGA and landed here. I was curious if I was the only one. I had a chance to try an iPhone and VGA adapter with a number of displays and I have to say.... 16:9 VGA output on the iPhone blows chunks.

On a HP 23" display, it was totally confused about the resolution (it thought it was 1152*720) and tried to display it inset in a 1920*1080 display.... shifted badly to the right.

A Sony XBR LCD TV displayed it shifted badly up and to the left. Had to max out all video position controls to get it back to the middle.

A TV-One Scaler displayed everything in a dull pink, but at was centered properly on the display.

The only one that got it right was a Dell 4:3 LCD display. However the phone was putting out 1024*768, not 1280*720.

I don't think 16:9 output on the iPhone 4 was tested much.... if at all.

I have the same problem with my VGA adapter (Apple) and no other connectors inbetween the iPad and my screen. Tried to plug first, last, ... it doesn't help. The symptoms are the same on a pretty new Philips LED screen and my 'old' Sony LCD TV. And is reproduced with all tested programs: iPhoto, Keynote, Videos, Air Video...

Could those with the same problem could tell which iOS they are using and whether they are JB? Mine is JBroken and runs iOS 3.2.1. Is a better with the component kit?

I am having the same dull and pink problem, it's like the B of the RGB is not being projected. I am using an InFocus 1100 and we have 3 of them in the office. I have tested all 3 same results. I went to the Apple store with the projector, tried different adaptors & VGA cables and a different iPad, same result. I called InFocus tech support. I was told that sometime the hertz and/or the resolution is not compatible on some macs, the this and once these settings are changed, the problem goes away. Unfortunately, I don't think this is an option on the iPad. Since the InFocus projectors are company wide, it looks like using the iPad in our business setting may be DOA. Which is a shame, I'm a huge fan.
