tracks in same album split into different "albums"

currently, I have a couple of different individual albums split into different albums.

examples: one track of Desertshore by Nico (which has only one disc) "belongs" to a different album, according to iTunes. (it also has a slightly different automatically retrieved album cover.) similarly, +The Madcap Laughs+ (which also has just one disc) by Syd Barrett has gotten split up into two albums. (again, with slightly different album covers.) other albums have the same problem.

I have tried going to Get Data and methodically making sure that the data matches and it still doesn't work. I have tried deleting all the info about individual tracks and still iTunes remembers the metadata. maddening! what can I do about this?

note that I have tried using iTunes 10's feature where you can edit all information in an album at once. a good feature, but it can't merge albums. manually dragging and dropping in and out of folders also does help, of course.

My problem with albums being split up has nothing to do with compilations. Albums that are from only 1 artist are being split up into multiple albums and even having a different artist given too them. I go on my itunes on my computer to check to see if somehow they got messed up and the albums are all the way they're suppose to be. I just don't know how to fix them it's really annoying. Here's an example of how some albums are being listed on my phone. Madonna Celebration 34 tracks by her- 1 track by Rammstein (Beautiful Stranger) and 1 track by Drill (Who's that girl). But on my computer they're all listed as Madonna being the artist. Please help this is SOOOOO annoying.

I just got off the phone with Apple, and “Frank” had a quick fix that works great. I wrote it down here, if anyone wants to use it. It is a very simple solution that does not require a high level of comprehension regarding iTunes album organization.

HOW TO MERGE AN ALBUM THAT HAS BEEN SPLIT:

Search “MY MUSIC", using “ARTISTS” to locate the split album. When listed by artist, the split album listings are shown consecutively, one right next to the other.

Highlight the first song of the first album and then SHIFT/HIGHLIGHT to include the last song of the album to be merged.

Right click on highlighted area and select “GET INFO.” Ignore prompt regarding multiple items. “Get Info” will immediately show the correct screen by default, which is the “DETAILS" screen.

The line item, “ALBUM” will be listed as “mixed.” Change this to the correct name of the album.

Select OK

The screen will rearrange its presentation and merge the split albums into a single album, showing the separated songs in their correct position.

Just a heads up for others based on my experience, everything needs to be the same (except the artwork if you want a still from the music video to show, delete the artwork (unless it has a still, as some do) so for example, I like to group music videos with the album the songs are from but I have a few that refused to group with their album. So, figured out my problem was that there was no 'genre' set for the music videos. Once I realized that and set the genre to "Rock" like the actual album, the music videos jumped into the album.
