Yahoo Emails Deleted After iPhone Sync

iPhone 3Gs, iOS 4
This so so frustrating, my emails from over 3 years, most of them very important were permamently deleted by iphone. I got the same response from Yahoo as you guys. Funnily enough my iphone now still keeps deleting email older than 3 months, and there are no settings for it in iphone... The most dissaponting phone ever, as a toy it may have some use, as a business tool (and a phone itself) absolutely pointeless.
hey all,
im not sure this is just an iphone issue. i started seeing this myself on Nov 30th (at least that ive noticed since Nov 30th). it's a sync issue between devices, i'm sure of it. i have two apple devices, one android and numerous pc's. i'm not sure which device, if not all are causing the issue, but im sure its because theyre not communicating properly. i wish i could provide a more technical description but i dont do this stuff anymore. emails look like theyve vanished because a device is uploading when it should be downloading??? if that makes any sense? so instead of "syncing" a device is telling the server what is contained within IT'S folders. this only seems to happen when i've moved emails, not deleted them. for anyone brighter than myself, i hope this helps. someone on here suggested adjusting iphone settings so that deleted messages aren't deleted (settings -> mail -> email acount name -> account info -> advanced -> deleted messages) set this to "never. when youve done this tap "account info" top left and then click on "done". if you dont click on done your phone won't save the settings. no idea if this will help as ive just done it myself. i hope this helps but am cynical enough to bet it won't. to anyone else who has this issue, please dont just complain, try and provide as much information (logically) as you can remember. maybe then we can come up with a resolution. fingers crossed.
Just to add, this is the exact scenario I have experienced. It's only deleting emails that I have moved to a sub folder that I set up. In addition, I have had an iphone for over 3 years and used it to access mails in this way. This is the first issue i have experienced so I would be very surprised if it's solely an Apple issue.
I am having the same problem. As a new Mac user (MacBook Air and 4S phone in December) who was so enjoying the products, this is really frustrating.
Some of the my yahoo mails that I have moved to sub folders were deleted twice! I'm using an iPad and never sync it with my computer. SO this can't be a sync problem.
I've been experiencing this too on an iphone4, just started noticing it last month after I started moving emails on my phone. Using Yahoo email, only emails that I have moved to a subfolder via my phone are later deleted by my phone. Following aiad_78's advice, I changed my phone's email delete settings to "never". They had been set to "1 week", which seems consistent with what I have been seeing, namely moved emails stick around for a while, then disappear right before my eyes as my phone is downloading a subfolder's email content.
It just happened to me last weekend. All but about 100 emails in my Yahoo inbox were gone. All other folders seem to be ok. I chatted with a Yahoo representative and they advised me not to use any iOS device to access my emails. I wasn't happy with them since they appeared to have known about it and had not warned me. I will just be using my browser for my yahoo and gmail or my Android phone.
But for all of us, it is a good lesson regarding who has your data. For example, if you use dropbox or any other cloud based service, if they have a glitch in their system, their server can "say" that you deleted all your files, and replicate that to all your compute devices, and you lose everything. We have to be careful as we're all tending to live life in the cloud now.
My recommendation would be to
1. Use a mail client that can download all of your email to your PC or MAC.
2. Back it up regularly on your own internal hard drive. Include your other key directories that are with a syncing service
3. Setup a reminder and do this every week.
4. Buy an external hard drive and backup to this at least every month.
5. Put that external hard drive in a different location in case of fire, flood, or theft.
I better start doing this myself...
I'm having the same trouble w/imac and ipod touch. Emails go missing randomly. Sorry to ask a simple question, but would Time machine backups have the old emails?
Have you solved the problem? Would setting up a different email client help? The ipod is set up as POP and the imac as IMAP. Tried setting the imac to POP but would not connect to email server. Will it help to stop getting emails to the ipod?
thanks
Your post of 13 months ago is still relevant.
Most of my emails on the Yahoo server have been deleted by my iphone5 IOS 6.1. I am not using the iCloud.
Now when I deleted emails from iPhone or iPad they are simulataneously deleted from the Yahoo server. This has only happened very recently (fortunately most they are on my iMac and backed up x2). On my iPhone in
Settings/Accounts/account/Advanced/Deleted Mailbox I have set it to delete on my iPhone to trash and NOT on the server, but this is not happening and is really annoying me.
I have deleted the accounts on my iPhone and reset them manually to no avail. Is this someting to do with IOS 6??
Can you please advise??
Thanks
I am answering my own question. The Yahoo account is now IMAP, rather than POP3 as it used to be, hence emails deleted from any device, beit ipad or iphone will be deleted from the Yahoo server, which is exactly what I do not want but Apple does. I am not a techie, but will try to manually set up a pop3 account.
