iPad no longer accepts PayPal???

I purchased an app with my iPad two days ago. Today it says "PayPal is not supported on this device."

FWIW, that the only method of payment I'm going to use on the internet. Has Apple picked a fight with PayPal now that they've got one going with Adobe and Google?

Or is this just a new bug?

wi-fi iPad, iPhone 3G, iOS 4

Fight with PayPal? Not even going to go into your comment about Adobe and Google.

PayPal plus iTunes works for me on my Mac, iPad and iPhone 4. Not sure how to help you here.

It's definitely a bug, or Apple has stopped accepting PayPal on the iPad.

After several time outs and other weird occurrences the iTunes store, accessed through itunes on a Mac, finally accepted my Visa card for payment and I'm now downloading the app on my iPad that I tried to buy this morning.

Can anyone confirm or deny that they could purchase an app with their iPad linked to a PayPal-backed account today? It was working fine Sept 1 when I last bought an app.

Hi there,

I'm noticing more or less then same thing, but it seems like it has been happening to me for the last couple of weeks or so. Just haven't had time to get to the bottom of it.

Since seeing is believing, here is a screenshot from my iPhone 4:

As it says, "PayPal is not supported on this device". I really don't understand why it would be specific to the 'device', since the payment system is linked to the account, and the account is used by iTunes on the computer, as well as devices like the iPhone, iPad, etc.

I've had two conversations with Apple support people about the problem, and neither of them provided what I would consider a satisfactory answer -- it sounded to me like they sort of knew there was a problem, but were talking around it –– very politely, though. 🙂

I guess it may have something to do with the security problems with Apple and PayPal that were mentioned in this BBC article a couple weeks ago:

Anyway, I'd love to hear if anybody else is seeing similar issues.

I have had this problem for the past few days. Same problem across my iPad, iPhone 3GS and iTunes 10 (which I installed a few days ago. Coincidence?)

Basically it seems there is some problem in the "link" between iTunes 10 and PayPal. iTunes is redirecting me to PayPal for verification, PayPal is doing its thing and sending me back to iTunes (which it cannot find on my PC). When I go back to iTunes it seems the verification has not happened. iPad and iPhone just say that "PayPal is not supported on this device".

Other theories: 1) increased security policy which is not working for me; 2) I have a US iTunes account but I am currently in Australia.

Same problem, Mac iTunes 10. iPad just updated to latest software. No issues with PayPal account, positive balance. Used iPad for purchase a dozen or more apps, subscribe to several magazines and newspapers, Dwell, MacUser and others.

Got notice that new issues were available for download. Went to download, entered itunes password and got message. PayPal not accepted on this device, click here, etc.. Which only results in an error.

Both PayPal and Apple say the problem 'doesn't exist' but message boards are starting to fill up with messages and postings.

Whatever the problem is, they just turned my iPad into an iBrick. Can't purchase music, apps or subscription updates.

Hope solution is right around the corner.

My PayPal account is prefunded and does not have a credit card associated with it. Up until a few days ago I had no problems purchasing or installing apps. I did some digging, it seems that PayPal/Apple have instituted some additional security.

When I get the PayPal not supported on this device, it directs me to PayPal which asks me to enter a credit card to be associated with the account. My PayPal account is in the US with a US billing/mailing address BUT I am not, so when I try to enter a credit card the message comes up VENDOR REQUIRES A US CREDIT CARD be associated with this account.

I strongly suspect Apple is doing US IP address matching and see's any address conflict as fraud - which is course it JUST PLAIN SILLY... iPAD's are 'mobile' devices and used extensively for TRAVEL !!!

I've spoken to both Apple and PayPal, there is nothing wrong with my Store or Account, as before both denied the problem even exists... but spoke with a guy at PayPal who said... it could be either because I don't have a backup funding source (or) because my IP address was outside the United States.

I live in the Cayman Islands, bought my iPAD from our authorized distributor and for some strange reason Apple seems to have decided that because I am not in the US that I can no longer purchase applications.

Just happened to me.I've been making purchases with Paypalwithout problem. Now suddenly y Iphone 4 and Ipad cannot make purchases through Paypal and I'm getting the Paypal is not supported on this device message. TONS of postings about CC & Paypal problems since June on this and other boards, but no solution.

same thing happened to me.
I don't buy apps on a daily basis, but must have bought my latest one about a week ago. This morning when trying to buy another one, the same message poped up.
I don't currently live in the US, but have a billing and bank account there and a paypal account linked to this bank account - it has worked since the beggining...
Has anyone found a solution or explanation?
