Itunes 10 installation problem with ipodservice.exe

I have an issue with the installation of itunes 10: I get an error saying that Ipodservice.exe couldn't start (Windows application error). Itunes starts ok but then I can synch my photos (itunes 10 freezes). I tried de-installing all my apple products, restarting windows and then reinstalling itunes 10: still have the same error message and the same issue. Does someone have an idea on how to make this work ? It was working perfectly when I was under itunes 9...

1. Before upgrading to iTunes 10, go to C:\Program Files\iPod\bin.
2. Copy the "iPodService.exe" to "My Documents" or somewhere other than C:\Program Files\iPod\bin.
3. Install iTunes 10. When you get the iPod service error, go to C:\Program Files\iPod\bin. Rename "ipodservice.exe" to "ipodservice.old". You'll be prompted if you really want to change the file extension, click "yes".
4. Copy the "iPodService.exe" from step 2 back into this directory and click "ok" to the error message prompt to retry and it will complete the iTunes 10 install.

Hi all,

Same problem as everybody here, upgrading to v10 is causing the iPodService error message. And freeze when adding new photos to sync with my iPhone 3G.

I was thinking that iOS 4.V will fix the photos sync bug with iPhone, but upgrading to iOs 4.1 yesterday, sync not work, and got the 1602 error message.

Now my iPhone is no more recognized by iTune when plugging it in, and the iOs 4.1 installation is not completely done, and the iPhone is showing the picture to connect the USB cable.

Conclusion : iTunes 10 doesn't work (photos sync freeze), iPhone 3G doesn't work anymore.

ALL MY APPLE PRODUCTS DON'T WORK !!!

Thank you Apple.

But please help quickly. It doesn't matter for music and photos, but I need to use my phone !!!!!

_*Found this process deep in forum, tried it AND IT WORKS !!!*_

1. Uninstall iTunes 10
2. Install iTunes 9.2.1 ( http://rapidshare.com/files/403814326/iTunesSetup.exe)
3. After the install, copy the "C:\Program Files\iPod" folder to an alternate location.
4. Uninstall iTunes 9.2.1
5. Install iTunes 10
6. When the error pops up during installation, overwrite C:\Program Files\iPod with the previously copied folder.
7. The install will complete successfully and iTunes 10 will run normally.

ENJOY 😉

These steps of preserving the iPod folder and re-instantiating it while the error is popped did work to the extent that iTunes then installed and started without errors.

HOWEVER, I am unable to connect to the iTunes Store.

NEVER MIND, I'm stupid. I missed another one of those sub-surface messages that Symantec firewall likes to slip under all my active windows asking permission for iTunes.exe to talk to the web. Sigh.

I've just about had it with iTunes, this is yet another balls up from Apple.
Every time I update iTunes something breaks and I sit there wondering why I bothered - whether it’s the sync with outlook screwing up my entire calendar and forcing me to downgrade or a poxy ipod service failing with no clue.
This is exactly the reason I refuse to make purchases through iTunes - Why should I reward Apple for this time wasted rubbish!
I consider myself a tolerant user, but iTunes pushes me over the edge. I'm going to start looking into alternatives now as I've had my fill.

this is nonsense. i have wasted half a day on trying to get itunes 10 and upgrading my iphone which i use for work. ALL my iphone apps got wiped out!!! is there any way i can get my apps back? and my data on them.

is anyone from apple reading this forum? some suggested this messy workaround below. but i why do i have to go thru all this messy procedure just for an upgrade of itune. absolutely not acceptable.

1. Uninstall iTunes 10
2. Install iTunes 9.2.1
3. After the install, copy the "C:\Program Files\iPod" folder to an alternate location.
4. Uninstall iTunes 9.2.1
5. Install iTunes 10
6. When the error pops up during installation, overwrite C:\Program Files\iPod with the previously copied folder.
7. The install will complete successfully and iTunes 10 will run normally.

have any of you guys did this workaround by going back and installing itunes 10 but using the ipod service from version 9 using the latest nano? i just bought one today and you have to use itunes 10 in order for it to work. wasn't going to go through all that effort again if it still won't work with the "workaround" i'll keep 9 on and return the **** thing! suggestions please
