iPhone 4 Screen - Fingerprints

I have had the iPhone 4 for a month or so.
The screen is really really sensitive to fingerprints. When i wipe it clean with a lint free cloth till its clean and then touch it again i can actually see the details of my finger prints, i have tried washing my hands and also it sbows up other peoples prints too so its not just my fingers, its frustrating me to the point of wanting to get the phone changed...
any advice? i want it shiny like my friends and the one in the adverts!

Honestly just use a screen protector then your problem is fixed. You no longer have to wipe the screen.

Powersupport HD anti-glare screen protector does not make the Retina display look rubbish. Matter of fact it does not change the view of the display at all. I have the HD anti-glare screen protector on and it's still clean and crystal clear. i don't have to wipe my screen all the time.

you can also get the crystal clear screen protectors and they don't hurt the retina display at all either.

It's a touchscreen. What do you expect? Yes, it has a "special" coding called an oleophobic coat, but that only minimizes the prints, not prevents them from happening. What you're probably experiencing is probably nothing compared to other touch screen phones. The Evo, oh my god, you can tell that phone had fingers on it from 50 feet away. I swear. Anti-Glare screen protectors would probably be the best solution though. Other than that,.. it's just a touch screen phone. Oh well, bummer! (Not trying to be mean or anything)

Once you turn the thing on, those prints are NOT noticed I'm sure, it's only when it's off and black that you notice. I carry a microfiber cloth in my iPad for keeping both clean. My 3GS was worse but cleaned well. Wiping it on your shirt may smear because of laundry residuals. IPhone 4 display handles this much better than other touch displays

I own an iPhone 4 since mid 2010. I realized that, when it was new, the screen could easily be cleaned. Usually I was able to remove finger prints by simply wiping the glass with my heel of hand. However, in the meantime, it became worse. Now, it is hardly possible to clean the display at all. To remove finger prints I have to clean the glass by using a slightly moistened tissue (which I must exchange several times). When trying to clean it with a dry tissue, the finger prints become smeared over the glass like a film of oil. It is really annoying, because you can see the smudgy glass even if the display is on. I remember that the 3GS' anti-fingerprint coating was more persistent. It seems that iPhone 4's fingerprint coating sloughs within a few months of daily use.

Furthermore, my iPhone display gets more and more weird, little spots on the glass surface (it started on the bottom side of the screen close to the home button). It's not like scratches - it looks more like the surface becoming porous. Anyone seen that before? I'm thinking about bringing the iPhone to Apple's genius bar...

If fingerprints are bothering you, go to you closest Apple store and buy the Power Support Anti Glare protector. They've got them in stock for the iP4 now. You get two for $14.95. In my opinion, they are the best as they are dry mount and really easy to install. There's usually someone at the Apple store who is really good at puting them on. I had them installed on both my iP4's this weekend. Be advised they will reduce the clarity of the Retina display, but it will protect the screen and greatly diminish finger prints.......

Well, I would prefer to get my anti-finger-print coating back... It worked well when the iPhone was new.

What are you using to clean your screen? iClear solution is good. Try getting some and see if that brings you screen back to it's once new look.......Do not use traditional glass cleaners, like Windex. They can strip the oleophobic coating off your screen......

I just had a eureka moment with me fingerprint infested iPhone! I have for the past month been unable to get my iPhone 4 to remain clean for more then a couple of hours and when it got dirty it didn't just have an oily screen from my fingers it would have this white sheen that no cloth or cleaning solution could do a reasonably good job of keeping clean. Nor was this the first time I had this problem with an iPhone 4. I returned an earlier one for the same reason so I figured that when it started happening with the new phone that there must be some manufacturing problem with the phones and that I would just have to live with it. Well I'm pretty sure (in fact personally I'm convinced) that I've solved this problem for quite some time I've been cleaning the screen with a micro-fiber cloth and about a month ago the phone got particularly dirty so I figured I should clean the cloth and then wipe off the iPhone. BIG MISTAKE!!! You see it turns out (after many, many, many experiments with all kinds of solutions) that the problem started with washing the micro-fiber cloth. I'm fairly certain that we have a problem with hard water and that the water was leaving behind something in the micro-fiber which would then get on the phone and would render any effort to keep it clean futile. So my solution has been to clean the micro-fiber with filtered water and then use a cleaning solution (iKlear or Monster Clean touch) to clean the iPhone and use the dry micro-fiber cloth (washed with filtered water) to wipe away the cleaning solution. So now I finally have the phone I bought again. It's not fingerprint or smudge-proof but it's back to what it was like when I first got it!!!!!
