iPhone (4) Voice Memos not Syncing to New iTunes 10.0

I'm currently on an iPhone 4 (4.0.1 firmware) and I've been experiencing issues getting my voice memos to sync to my iTunes library.

The last time this worked was August 27, 2010 which added 3 voice memos to my iTunes library successfully. Since then, I have not yet updated my firmware but have installed the new iTunes 10.0. I have 8 new voice memo recordings on my phone since the last successful sync, and I've tried syncing my phone four times today, Sept. 4, (restarting iTunes and my iPhone) with no luck. I tried recording a new voice memo to see if iTunes 10 would recognize any memos recorded after the installation but that failed as well.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

bglackin, you are so awesome, your help is still going strong 5 years later... So others don't have to search the history here is bglackin's advice summarized:

---
1. unplug iPhone
2. File-->Library-->Organize Library
3. Plugged in iPhone--auto sync--still no memos
4. File-->Sync iPhone
5. Voice memos synched and appeared in Voice Memo playlist.
---

I found that after unplugging the phone, choosing Organize Library, when I plugged the phone back in, it did indeed sync on step 3. I didn't need step 4.

Thank you again to bglackin who figured this out.

I have been having the same problem with my Voice Memos syncing to iTunes (I'm running iTunes 10.2.2.12 with iPhone 4 OS 4.2.7). Last week I tried rebooting my computer and doing a hard reboot of my iPhone (holding down the Home and Lock buttons simultaneously until the phone reboots). It worked then, but today when I tried it again...I still had problems. In fact, my device wasn't even registering the memos in iTunes.

I decided to try "trimming" my memos on the device and then syncing as some of you suggested, but that still didn't work.

However, as I was trying the timming method again, I discovered another solution.

1) Open the voice memo app on your phone.

2) Tap the blue arrow icon on the right like you're going to trim the memo.

3) Instead of tapping the trim memo icon, tap the gray arrow on the right side of the memo info box at the top of the screen.

4) This should bring up a list of labels, tap "memo". When I initially opened this window "none" was selected.

5) Resync with iTunes.

I did this and my voice memos appeared. I hope this helps. And I hope it works next week.

It seems that the only way to sync without problem the memos is using a different software than iTunes. With iTunes, instead we all have all sort of problems. Myself the sync works on and off unexpectedly applying all sort of tricks.

What would you think if you would try to fill up the tank of your car and the pump of your gas station would work just once in a while? I do not think you would be very happy. Neither I am!!!

It is really unacceptable that after over a year and several releases of iTunes and IOS this trivial problem has not been solved by Apple!!!

I was having the same problem as everybody here. The idea suggested by bglackin was the one that worked for me. Thank god because it was a 2 hour long interview with Miniclip!

I was having exactly this problem. With the iPhone unplugged:

File-->Library-->Organize Library

Plugged in iPhone--auto sync--still no memos

File-->Sync iPhone

Voice memos synched and appeared in Voice Memo playlist.

Thanks for all the helpful posts. I hope everyone else has solved their issues too.

Bingo!

I was in despair of finding a fix, having tried all the others.

Thanks very much - your fix worked for me.

Here it is again, to save scrolling:

  • Open the voice memo app on your phone.
  • Tap the blue arrow icon on the right like you're going to trim the memo.
  • Instead of tapping the trim memo icon, tap the gray arrow on the right side of the memo info box at the top of the screen.
  • This should bring up a list of labels, tap "memo". When I initially opened this window "none" was selected.
  • Resync with iTunes.

Thanks again!

I was having the same problem, my setup is:

Macbook Pro = running Windows 7 (64-bit) + iTunes 10.4 + iOS 4.3.5.

However, I had to only do one simple thing, as mentioned (above) by @SLOTH8:

a) the Voice Memos on the iPhone had a "NONE" tag instead of the "MEMO" tag

b) On the recorded memo : > Click on the recording's BLUE arrow (right side) > Click again on the recording (on next screen) > Apply the "MEMO" label instead of the "None" (apparently the default)

c) resync with iTunes

Very simple.
