Epson Stylus 4800 prints cyan cast around picture - latest driver 6.65

I am in need for help.
Since moving to MacPro Nehalem, OS 10.6.4, I have the following issue:

Printing on Epson Stylus 4800 out of Photoshop CS5 Extended, I get cyan cast around the picture.
It does not show in the print area, but in all the printable mediaformat around.
I use the latest driver 6.65 and different custom paper profiles. These are from different sources( manufacturer of the paper and custom paper profiles).
The Printer Settings are correct - relative colormetric and compensate the darks active - as I always had under 10.5.8 and 10.4.11. No colour Adjustment chosen in the print settings...

I had the profiles checked by the manufacturers and by Dr. Phil Green from ICC.
The profiles are correct...

I sent some testprints and screenshots of my workflow to epson germany.
But maybe anyone has some hints....

Bypass/Solution

I also ran into problems with Version 4 profiles from some profiling tools along with the cyan issue and the passing the print head for the entire document..

I have developed a procedure to continue to work with snow leopard 10.6.5 it appears to work for both PSE9 and CS5 photoshop V2.4 and V4.1 profiles

1. do all your regular work as always.
2. select resize canvas uncheck relative and define canvas as the actual size of the paper you are using make background and foreground white
3. when you go to the print menus you work as always. You can also move the image around on the canvas.
4. do not same image with the canvas sizeunless you want to....

note: do not use the relative canvas option it does not eliminate all the cyan printing..

The printer now loads paper and spaces forward to the image and starts printing only the image. at end it just releases paper as always.

I know this is only a bypass ...... but it works...(I think. so far no caveats from my tests. hope you guys do not find any problems with it!

good luck elo

2010 update: it is not an OS issue. PS is the issue. test these scenarios:

Epson 3880, OS 10.6.6, PS CS4, preview, Aperture 3.1.1, X Rite Colour Munki Photo, all latest drivers, Epson ultra premium luster paper.

Cyan border OS10.6.6, PS CS4 with custom profile (ICC v4.0), PS manage color is the ONLY scenario that produces a cyan border. Combinations producing no border:

Not the OS:
Preview with color sync, custom profile
Preview with printer manage colours
Preview with standard luster profile (ICC v 2.4.0)
Aperture with custom profile

Not the Printer:
PS with printer manage profile

Scenarios where PS works
PS with standard epson luster profile

So the culprit is PS and a custom colour profile (in ICC v4.0 at least). I'm not going to do a custom profile in ICC v2.4.0 just yet. I'll use Preview or Aperture as my work-arounds.

Were you aware that Adobe changed the colour engine in PS somewhere between CS and CS4?

I'm getting this problem too, and have a question but probly not related to...
Does Rosetta still need to be running with the 3800 current drivers and updates?
I have no problem with the cast using CS3 but get the cast in varying degrees with most papers, except on harman for some reason. All are version 2 or 2.4 profiles and cast shows up in CS4 and CS5.
I figure the canvas resize option will work for now, but how is this issue not being addressed and is it not happening to everyone? So weird.

Fellow sufferers:

I have left you all.
I purchased Spyder3PrintSR.

All of my problems have now been left behind. Everything seems?? to work as it should.
My clients for giclees say the images look better than before. clearer, sharper, better colors. Yet I used specially generated profiles (xrite) from my printed targets, sent to my supplier of paper, then generated by very expensive software and hardware.
Spyder is easy to use and I can now get on with printing without worrying about having to use the bypass procedure.

note all profiles are ICC specification 2.0 (what am i missing from 2.4 and 4.0?)

cheers elo
