I'm still fearful to try 4.1. I've been tempted to smash my iPhone into a wall more than once since switching to 4.0.1. The keyboard is so slow sometimes it's ridiculous. Safari takes FOREVER to load. Apps crash pretty much every time. Especially if I've used them longer than two minutes.

I've had the blacked out picture scroll preview since I last switched, and from what I can tell, it only blacks out the pictures I took after updating to 4.0.

My favorite 4.0.1 benefit is that I lost my voicemail because I had to reset my phone to get it to work. (That's what the "Genius" told me, anyway.) The phone still doesn't work, and it reset my pin number, and none of the Apple or AT&T default pins have worked.

I'll be monitoring the threads (like I have been since 4.0) to see what the general consensus is. I know technology is bound to change frequently. But I was forced into a two-year contract and I expected the phone would work long enough to honor that.

Crimsonrambler - Try calling 611 on your phone to reach AT&T customer support. One of the prompts will ask if you want to reset your mailbox. Once you reset your mailbox, you can start receiving your visual voicemail again.

As for upgrading to 4.1, I can't say for sure, but according to the comments on this thread, it sounds much improved over 4.01 and 4.02. I'm still using the 3.13 version of the iPhone OS, but I am going to keep an eye on these threads to see how it works for everyone.

After a couple of months of missed calls and generally horrible performance, I've been counting the days till this update. Am downloading it now.

QUESTION: There was a whole lot of talk about CLEAN install versus UPGRADE with 3.13 to 4.0. Anyone found any problems so far upgrading? I'm loath to set this thing up from new yet again. But if there's a performance difference I will do what ever is necessary. I'm really looking forward to having a phone again, instead of this fancy looking brick in my pocket.

I've upgraded to 4.1 and I have no contacts and can't pull them down from Exchange automatically the way that it did previously. I also can't search through the Global Address List that is exposed either. I've restored my contacts from backup and still nothing. But since they are all on exchange anyway, why should I restore them from backup?

If Steve wanted to drive me into the arms of a Windows 7 phone, iOS 4 has been the experience to do that.

As the phone is primarily for business use, not having my contacts immediately available is a devastating blow to my confidence in Apple. And I can't go back. For some reason.

IPHONE 3G UPGRADE FROM 4.0 TO 4.1 COMPLETE

SEEMS ALOT FASTER AND BETTER IN GENERAL HOWEVER NOW HALF MY PICTURES SHOW UP AS BLACK SQUARES ONCE I GO INTO AN ALBUM AND SCROLL THROUGH ALL OF THEM. I CAN SCROLL THROUGH AND LOOK AT ALL THE BLACK SQUARES AND IF I TAP ON THE BLACK SQUARES THE ACTUAL PHOTOS SHOW UP IN FULL SCREEN. JUST NOT IN THE MAIN ALBUM.

WEIRD!
