I have wifi, it works. I have downloaded apps and streamed a great quality flick on netflix. But everytime I try to activate my facetime on the newest itouch. It says "check your network connection and try again". Please help.

Here is my current theory for requirements:

Note: This is assuming you don't have firewall problems, networking issues, etc. I knew I didn't because I set up my network myself and do this for a living...

1. Your account username must be an email address.
2. The username's email address must be verified (go to http://appleid.apple.com/ and verify it).
3. Use the account recovery at http://appleid.apple.com/ to make sure there are no other accounts with your usernames email address. I discovered I had another account, probably from buying stuff at the apple store.
4. Make sure your password has a number and a symbol in it.

Ciao!

Just pulled my hair out for 1/2 hour until I realized it's not me! "incorrect password" blah, blah. This is one of apples big advertised apps and I can't believe they haven't fixed this!
I bought 2 new iPods so I have someone to use it with but can't use it!!

Everyone seems to have their idea of a fix or change apple I'd, change this setting or make that adjustment. Listen apple people, get the job done. This is not acceptable!

Hi all I'm wondering if this like many error messages is slightly misleading.
Like many of you I had the error message
Unable to verify because it's in use ( not verbatim)
My suggestion is go to your apple I'd whatever it is an click on the email tab you may find like me that you primary email address wasn't verified.
Click on verify go throughout the various steps required.
Next time I started FaceTime it went straight to
Contact info. In fact I thought I'd started the wrong app as I expected to gothrough the verification procedure.

That's not to say anything that's been said before is wrong.
but try using an email address as your apple Id
then make sure your primary email address is verified in your appleid area and this worked for me
