Facetime activation

I have wifi, it works. I have downloaded apps and streamed a great quality flick on netflix. But everytime I try to activate my facetime on the newest itouch. It says "check your network connection and try again". Please help.

I had this issue with a newly purchased ipod touch 4 (4.2.1). I tried all the suggestions listed here, i.e. 8.8.8.8 dns, changing password to include uppercase and numbers, trying different/new apple IDs, all to no avail. Everything else worked (email/safari/itunes/app store) but Facetime. Then I realised the date and time was set to the default year of 1970 and once this was set correctly, Facetime activated as normal. Bizarre, but just thought I'd share.

An article by Jesse David Hollington describes the problem. Facetime on the iPod never changes the password after the first time. So if you login to facetime on iPod, then changes password for your account and then try to change the password in facetime to match the account password the login will fail. So the solution is to change back your password for the apple id account as it was when you logged in to facetime the first time. Wiping all data might work also,

And it has NOT been fixed in 4.3.
