Google Instant -has anyone successfully disabled it?

Has anyone figured out how to get rid of Google Instant?

I followed the instructions I found here on how to disable it:
http://searchengineland.com/google-instant-complete-users-guide-50136
but the confounded thing still offers suggestions. (Maybe these suggestions aren't something that bothers everyone, but they sure bother Mr & Mrs H.)

I've seen several discussions already throughout the web complaining about this new feature that Google thinks we need. I just wondered if anyone here has found a way out of this.

I know I can use Google Fudd to avoid it (and probably Google International which I used to use, but can no longer find - anyone know the address for this?); however, Fudd doesn't have everything available as full Google does.

NB I use Firefox, not Safari, but it's Google that's the culprit not my browser.

With you all the way, Mrs H. Somehow it hasn't occurred to them that a category of people exists that want their browser *NOT TO* do the auto-filling, instead of google. Besides that, I think it's pretty inefficient to have servers start searching for something before it is known what that something actually is.

Anyway, I got this link from someone at google's forums

http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0

Seems to work for now.

I added in caps a NOT TO in your reply - I trust that's what you meant?

This is wonderful.
No more autosuggestions with Google allowed in NoScript.

I still get autosuggestions in Google images, _do you know of a workaround for that?_

I'm going to make this new addy our homepage on all our Macs.

Thank you so much. I tried to find such a solution on Google forums, but couldn't and gave up.
I hate to hear you say "for now" - I want it to be forever!!

This seems to work 🙂

http://www.google.com/imghp?complete=0

And nope, didn't mean 'not to'. What I personally want is that my browser autofills text boxes using words and phrases that I entered previously, giving me a slide-down window with matching entries. Safari and Chrome do this. What I do not want is a slide-down with matches that Google thinks are relevant. Sorry if I wasn't clear before. Btw, strangely, Safari doesn't need the above link for google images to work 'properly'. That probably has something to do with its autofill preference options or something.

Anyhow, google just needs to drop the attitude, and give us the option to turn it off. Or even better, a little button inside the suggestions window so that you can turn it on or off with one click, like how they've done it on ebay.

Brillant! Thank you!
We now get the new (as of a few weeks ago) images format to work "properly" showing bazillions of images per page but without that confounded drop down which never seems to know what we actually are entering.

_Have you found a similar solution for maps - and then I'll leave you alone_ ? 🙂

Ahh. Different strokes... Now I see what you're after - can you get what you are after with this solution?

Yes. I read the Google forum yesterday, and found the solution you gave me previously. There were a lot of angry - very angry - replies out there. I agree Google is trying to make too many decisions for us. I was interested to read folks say that by using the addy you initially gave me Google can track the number of folks who have chosen that route presumable because they don't want the autosuggestions to appear. Perhaps they'll get the message, but I doubt if they'll act on it.

I have just been using Firefox with NoScript and "forbidding", aka disabling, javascript for Google. I was proud that I figured that out for myself and then read about it on the Forum. It didn't work as a solution for Mr H though since he needs all those Google images and I hope the addy you've given us will do the trick.

Thanks again!

Unfortunately, I can't get the complete=0 trick to work with Maps in any browser. Sorry. Maybe someone else can. But like you said, maybe G collects data on the use of these addresses, so the more people use them, the better.

Yeah, different strokes I suppose. I may even be an anomaly, haha. But I've been doing it like this for years until google started to override Safari's dropdowns just recently. But yes, these complete=0 addresses work for me. For now 😉

Hi Klaus,
I figured we'd hear from you again.

I've tried dogpile, alta vista, bing, and yahoo.
Google images, I'm afraid I have to admit, are the best for the work we have to do.
For regular searches, we've now got a good workaround with the suggestion of chambone01.

btw - don't you have an anniversary coming up soon? Happy Day! And I think I missed a Lily b'day in here somewhere... 😉
Vacationing in Denmark? lucky you! Thanks for showing up here, while there.

Hi Mrs H!

Wow, you have got a good memory!

Sometimes it can be a plague. 🙂

No vacation in Denmark this year - you misread my profile!

Good memory, but apparently poor reading skills.
Seems to me the Denmark info wasn't always under your name - the "new" info tricked me.
