FaceTime unable to activate

I have an iPod touch 4g on which I have been trying to activate FaceTime. Every time I try I get the message "Could no sign in. Please check your network connection and try again." I have tried creating a new account and port forwarding and still can't get it to work. Any suggestions on what else to try?

I had the same problem and my solution was in two steps:

1. Set the DNS to Google's: "8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4" (two addresses separated by a comma, no spaces).

2. For some reason, my iPod Touch 4G came defaulted with the wrong time and date (it was set to some time in the 1970's). I fixed the date to the correct one.

Then, voila!

I had this problem, and none of the previous answers worked for me. After testing several different approaches, I finally discovered what the problem was:

* Your password must have at least 1 uppercase letter and 1 numeral in it. *

The reason that new accounts work is because the process Apple set up for creating new accounts requires that you have at least 1 uppercase letter in your password. Older accounts, on the other hand, don't require having an uppercase letter.

Try these steps:

1. Go to: http://appleid.apple.com/
2. Click on *Manage your account* and login.
3. Click on *Password and Security*.
4. Click on *Change Password*.
5. Change your password. *Make sure your password has at least 1 uppercase letter and 1 numeral in it!*
6. Click on the *Save Changes* button.
7. Finally, go back to your iPhone or iPod Touch and try your new password in FaceTime, and voilà!

Please let me know if this works for any of you. I am curious to know if this helps people out.

Good luck!

Gah! I am also having problems with activating facetime. I keep trying to sign in but it tells me my password doesn't match my ID. My ID is an e-mail address, it has been set up today, I can log in to itunes and download apps etc but facetime will not recognise. I have changed my password several times but to no avail.

No Apple store near us, I reckon it's an ipod fault maybe - I have the 'new' 4th gen pod which I suppose may have new thingy glitches :((((

If you have tried everything suggested in both topics where you have posted about this, I think you are correct that there may be something wrong with your particular iPod. The retailer who sold it to you should be able to help you or perhaps exchange your iPod for one that works.

I have also offered other comments at your other post on this subject:

I finally found this same issue. Apple should give you an error message that your password does not meet security requirements and ask you to change the password to meet the settings listed by ashama.

I changed my password to meet the facetime requirements ...at least 8 characters, one capitol letter, one lower case letter and one numeral.

Facetime worked fine for me after this. I tried all the other suggestions in this forum. the Google DNS settings, the reset to default, the shutdown/restart and etc...

Hopefully this is helpful.

I had the same problem on my Mac Book Pro when I moved to Lion and got the ability to run FaceTime.

I tried to solve this problem in following advices found in web forums but none did work until I found a french wizzard who preconized a solution that worked fine for me:

Go to the Apple Menu (top left apple)

Select "Network configuration">>"Network Preferences"

Click on the "Advanced" Button

Select the "DNS" tab

Change the adress of the DNS server by "8.8.8.8" (using the "+" button on bottom)

Then try to lauch FaceTime again and... it should work.

Note: I made an attempt to translate the menu items from my french OS version, so it could be a slight different wording that you will experiment.

Good luck!
