I have the iPhone 3GS and it was snycing fine, no problem prior to downloading iTunes 10.0. Since downloading iTunes 10.0 my iPhone will not go into snyc mode.
Sadly enough, reinstalling iTunes did not work for me. I have tried this several times and made sure to completely remove everything that said "Apple" 😉 Still though... no success.
In addition, I have run the iTunes diagnostic test (help>run diagnostic test>test connected devices) and here my iPhone is not recognised either. In short there really seems to be a problem with iTunes here. I hope someone (read: apple) comes up with a solution because this is getting quite frustrating.
Anyway, emptying my temp folder and reinstalling an older version of iTunes (9.2.1) helped fixing my problem.
Apple was very fast in removing my previous message in which I posted a link to download this version of iTunes since "Software licensed by Apple may only be distributed by sources approved by Apple" ... if only they were this fast in helping their customers...
It's completely the update to iTunes 10. I plugged my phone into my work computer that I never updated and it syncs just fine. Weird part is that Apple hasn't fixed this and you'd think they'd have to know about the issue since it's happening to everybody...
I am having issues with iTunes 10.0. I went through the help on the Apple website and it wants me to pay for help with troubleshooting. I am not going to pay to tell Apple that the iTunes 10.0 does not work. Fix the syncing issue. It no longer recognizes my iPhone. It is not a problem with my computer as there are over 100 people having the same problem and it worked just before I downloaded the newest version of iTunes.
Same problem I think here too. I was tring to sync iphone4 to itunes 10 and "nothing" but when i kept tring a mess came up stating that it is now an unknown device and if I continue to install the software it may impair or destabilize my system. What is that! I have never gotten a mess like that before. I didnt have a problem with my daughters 3G so is it an iphone4 issue or an itunes issue? Anyone know? Please help! Thanks!
Basically the only known fix seems to be to install an older version of Itunes (anything but v10). For me this worked and I know it did for other people as well.
Since installing an older version of Itunes seems to fix the problem, my guess is that the problem lies with Itunes. Too bad apple hasn't looked into it yet but till the day they do, try installing an older version...
I seem to be having a similar problem. I plug my iPhone 4 in and sometimes it starts to sync and sometimes it doesn't. But when it does, the phone says it's syncing before iTunes 10 says it is. By the time iTunes catches up...it says it is trying to finish the sync but then it fails because it says the device is not connected. I tried to restore it after reinstalling itunes and all that and I was able to restore it back to the latest sync (which was awhile ago) but only my pictures and contacts and messages came back...none of my apps. But now it still won't sync and now I'm getting the 0xE8000001 message saying that it can't connect. But when I ran the diagnostics...it passed both the connection and sync tests in itunes during one of the times itunes decided to recognize that it existed (Windows recognized it every time). On top of all of this...the new itunes seems to run extremely slowly...
i have the same problem too
what can we do?
can apple simply response to this issue ASAP???
it's really disgusting.......for a new apple user like me!!!!
In "music" my ringtones had also been added but with a "!" next to the ringtone. When you click on this the message reads something like "cant find location"
If you delete all the ringtones in "music" (the ringtones in "ringtones" don't get deleted") then sycn the phone then all my ringtones transfered to my Iphone
