Can't delete songs from my iPhone 4

Hello,
I'm unable to delete songs from my iPhone 4.
I tried to do it by un-checking the song in iTunes then
performing a sync with phone.

I thought that would remove the song but it did not work.

Am I not doing this correctly.
Any ideas?

Thanks!

After reading everything I could find on this topic, and trying everything recommended, i called apple support. The only thing that I may have done differently from others perhaps is i had first deleted everything in my library in itunes. I have a big music collection and put all the music i want on my phone in one folder and add it to my library. The music disappeared from my library when i deleted it, but o matter how i synced it wouldn't come off the iphone.

Since I ust upgraded to ios 5.0.1 recently Apple support didnt charge me. My iphone 4 is just over a year, so otherwise i would have had to pay. Long story short, they had me restore the phone, backup first.

Music is off phone now and i start again.

I agree we have a software glitch, whether related to the upgrade or something else. Ther are too many similar stories for it not to be.

Here are TWO simple ways to delete your songs. FORGET what everyone else said.

1. Swipe your finger to the left, over the track on your iPhone and a delete option will show up.

2. In itunes, after you've connected your phone. On the main iPhone page ( with all the tabs at the top) scroll down the page and click manually manage music and videos. After you select that all the songs you placed in the music tab on the side < can easily be deleted.

It's as simple as that. I don't know why people made it so complicated.

Because some people had HUNDREDS of songs they wanted to delete, that's why. Your suggestions are simply workarounds for the way you're supposed to be able to do mass-deletions, and if you bothered to read many of the posts, these workarounds don't always work.

Not sure if this is helpful at all but I had a similar issue with ibooks (couldnt seem to be able to delete items no matter where I deleted them from or how many times, they would always come back)

Once you select the iBooks library,

On the 'File' drop down tab of iTunes it said 'Display Duplicates' once you delete half of the duplicates and again from the iPhone they were gone for good.

Not sure if this works for music too ???? (or even if this post makes any sense to anyone reading it)

Let me know

I clicked on Manually manage Music and videos, and applied it...but when I check on the music tab under my iPhone, there is no music tracks listed...ust a checkbox marked Sync Music, and two choices under that, "Entire Library" and "Selected playlsts, etc", which I have the latter checked..

I had alot of songs, bet deleted the ones I had added to itunes, and all the songs but these 11 were removed.

On the music tab of the phone, it says there are zero tracks on the iphone, though can go into the music of the device and see there 11 songs.

I'd been agonizing over this for a week now and I figured it out, because when I used shuffle and my Christmas stuff would start playing, well that was really annoying. Anyway go to the left side where it says your IPhone, click on the arrow next to your IPhone's name and then click on music and a list of all your music on your IPhone shows up and you can manually delete it.

I too realised this issue when saw christmas music I was supposed to have removed at the last synch. I have done all the surgestions

  • Summary tab - Manually ......
  • Music tab - Uncheck....

ALL not working.

I tried michaelfrommoosup method, thought surely this must work BUT nah - could not get the delet option at first then delet worked - BUT the Music is still in the iPhone - FRUASTRATING.

It supprises me that Apple grew due to the music player but their music management too - itunes - is soooooo lame. Duplicating songs in the library - with no refresh button and now this failure to do the basic thing of removing songs from the iPhone - basic things one needs in a music manager.

No I have to go the painful way as surgested above - RESTORE - c'mon!!!

Delete option? What "delete" option? You select what you no longer want on you pod or phone, and hit the delete button on your keyboard. It's exactly the same as doing it before the new OS. You get to the list, manually delete. Did you ge to the list? Small arrow to the left of the text the shows your iPhone is connected, Manually select he songs from the list, manually delete. It's very simple.

Well from the way people have worded it up til yesterday, it made it sound like you had to go to the Music tab of your iphone onscreen menu on itunes, and manually select the songs to delete...but there is no song list. Everyone just kept saying go to the music tab and manually delete songs. I couldn't find any listings there...and I never noticed the little arrow beside the iphonw name. Wasn't til you mentioned yesterday about this arrow did I notice it.

I think that's why people were confused, because for the first 2 pages of this thread, it sounded like the music list was in the music section of your iphone onscreen menu.

I can't speak for everyone, but in my case I have done exactly what you are saying and it initially looks like I have in fact removed the music, but when I disconnect the iPhone the music that it said I deleted is still there. I can delete them one at a time on the phone itself (right swipe, click delete) and that works, but when we are talking about hunderds or thousands of songs that's a silly way to do it.

There is some kind of bug here that needs fixed. Not sure if this is the same case for everyone, but that's the issue I am having.

I have been follwing zblom, therealcbar and mogmachine on this thread - u r among the few who actually know what this whole thread is about, others keep jumping in with no background.

The delet method descibed by michaelfr... did not work for me either. Songs are removed from itunes but remain on the iphone - thereu go back to the begining.

I keep a few songs on my iphone - so I manually deleted the albums and got everything off without having to restore - what a releif - however not the solution to the problem - this is moving backwards.
