Can't delete songs from my iPhone 4

Hello,
I'm unable to delete songs from my iPhone 4.
I tried to do it by un-checking the song in iTunes then
performing a sync with phone.

I thought that would remove the song but it did not work.

Am I not doing this correctly.
Any ideas?

^This. But for an iphone 4, or at least for my 4, it's Setting-->General-->Usage-->Manual Storage-->Music-->All Songs**swipe left** & then reset in itunes. x

This (or perhaps a slight variation of this) worked for me. Under Summary, I ticked Manually manage... and hit Apply. After that, I was able to delete all the songs visible in (left menu) On My Device > Music.

So, the only way to remove music from the iPhone 4 is to delete individual songs one by one. The "swipe to the left" gesture only works (for me) on songs, not on artists or albums.

to delete songs from iphone 4 just tap on music, tap on songs, select the song to be deleted and swipe left, delete will come up on the right, tap on it.

You can delete entire albums. Select the album and tap the ellipses "..." above its list of songs, then tap "Delete from library".
