iPad will not turn on

My iPad will not power on. I have handled it very carefully. I checked my email on it in the morning, turned it off, then tried to turn it back on about an hour later with no luck. Any ideas?

HI,

Connect it to an wall outlet to make sure the battery is charging.

Or, connect to your computer and see if that helps.

Try resetting the iPad. Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Same sinking feeling.....iPad would not turn on. I have owned PCs since 1990 and this was a new one on me. However, the reset by holding the on/off button and home button for 10 minutes did the trick. THANK YOU! User uploaded file
I discovered this last night and believing I must of somehow drained the power to 0%, I plugged it in to charge all night. This morning, still would not turn on, tried another wall plug, no effect. Then I go to on line help and found this string. iPad is now on, at 42% power level. Reading the previous strings on maybe a flaw at low battery power? Not sure if it fits. The complexity of the operating system synching with the hardware portion, even my BlackBerry needs to have the battery pulled out from time to time. I am glad to know the reset procedure for the iPad.

I had the same the issue. Thanx 4 the fix. As to why it happens: remember, this is a CPU chip and memory. One bit error in an instruction sent to the CPU chip can cause it to freak out & shut down. I work with $500,000 Videoconference Bridges and at least once a year they freak out and have to be power cycled. It matters not what you paid. Until memory chips become perfect all the time, this sort of thing can happen. Until all the causes can be found and error handlers written into the operating system code, lockups will happen. It's just the way it is. Better it should lock up and shut its self down, than try to run an instruction that can danage the hardware.

C'mon Zinman, this is indeed a design issue. You make a good point, but the reality is that this should not happen and there must be a more technical answer than an erroneous bit. It's not acceptable that system MUST be restarted from time to time, think of all those banks on UNIX servers that have never been rebooted. Just my two cents, no harm intended.

I had same problem.

As I was playing with my iPad, tried to plug-in the SD card reader but Photo would not see the card (weird). SO I decided to do a normal iPad restart (only sleep button for 5 secs until reset slider). But then, my iPad froze on shutdown at the little spinning thingy... Was having a heart attack for 5 secs also!

Thank you for the hard reset trick. It saved my day also. : )

Have lot's of memory bugs since last patch (4.3.2). Here's hoping the next one will fix some!
