Podcast Not Marked as Played

I download many podcasts and move them to my iPod. I usually play them straight from the computer and then disconnect it to listen to as I walk my dogs so I know which ones were played or not. Before iTunes 10 I was able to disconnect and just select the podcast I was listening to and pick up right where it left off. Now iTunes 10 will not remember where in the podcast I was or even if it was played, it will mark it as unplayed.

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8), iTunes 10

Good evening! Apple employees are known to monitor these forums, however, the only sure way to elevate this issue to Apple's attention is send a comment to Apple using the "Submit Feedback" link in iTunes, or directly at the following link http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

The only way this issue will get addressed is if Apple gets enough user feedback indicating that this is an issue. (Apple is known to be very responsive to customer issues - but it's on us to let them know this is a problem.)

If you can, would you please take 30 seconds and send Apple a note!

thanks!!

I'm also having this issue. It seems iTunes 10 is having trouble with syncing (at least podcasts) in this direction iTunes -> iPod, and identifying which device played the podcast last.

My case is the opposite of the OP's one, but it shows the same logic: I listen to podcasts on my iPod while I come back from work, and when I get home I connect it to the Mac, turn on iTunes and continue playing that podcast where I left it. The podcast DOES play from where I left it (since the communication iPod -> iTunes DOES work), but when I finish listening to it (and so the podcast is marked as watched on iTunes), when Syncing, that podcast in the iPod will not update to Watched but it will update the iTunes file as partially watched again, right how it was when I connected the iPod...

I don't know if this happens with normal music too, but it is really annoying, because it takes away all the pleasure of the syncing feature...

Another irritated podcast listener here... I also have issues where itunes helpfully transfers podcasts back to my ipod after I've already listened to them and they were deleted. I've narrowed it down to the fact that I have an ipod, an ipad, and an iphone, and I transfer my podcasts to all of them... but I mainly listen to them via the ipod hooked into my car stereo.

Itunes 9x used to be smart enough to note that if a podcast was listened to on one device, it should be deleted from the other devices when they eventually get synced, too.

Itunes 10 will delete played podcasts from my ipod when I do my daily sync.

However, once I sync one of my other devices, it will see that there is an unplayed copy of the podcast on it. Not only will it not delete it, like itunes 9 used to do, but now, the next time I plug in my ipod, it will copy the already-played podcast back to the ipod again.

Is there any reason NOT to downgrade back to itunes 9, so I can have a properly-functioning syncing process?

I updated to iTunes 10.1 and hoped that the problem was finally solved. Disappointingly it wasn't. Obviously nothing changed. During syncing with ipad and iphone still the play position gets lost and podcast episodes that I watched already on the ipad or iphone are after synchronizing with iTunes sometimes marked marked as not watched.

How long to we have to wait until this error gets fixed? I wonder if everybody has this issues with syncing. If yes, why not more people are complaining about this?

At least for me, this pre iTunes 10 great syncing feature was one of the most important reasons I choose iphone + ipad instead of an android phone and pad. I guess, next time - if this hasn't been fixed until than, my decision will be open.

Good evening to all - I similarly am having this problem. The ONLY certain way to elevate this issue to Apple's attention is send a comment to Apple using the "Submit Feedback" link in iTunes, or directly at the following link http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

If you can, would you PLEASE take 30 seconds and send Apple a note! Trust me, I have, and also have opened an AppleCare case, and have e-mailed Steve Jobs (well before his leave) about this issue. This is an exceptionally frustrating issue, and really hoping it gets resolved (and repaired) soon.

thanks!!
