FYI: iTunes 10 - now exports playlists from iPod

Can now select a playlist on the iPod and right click - Export…
as .txt, .xml, .m3u, .m3u8 and unicode.
Note that this does not export the songs, just a playlist with the song info. So if you lose the playlist in iTunes and it's on the ipod simple enough to recover.

Okay so am lost. Do you create a playlist for your itunes or ipod? Then after how do you do this. Tell me in a simple way.

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

If your library already has the media and you're only needing to extract playlists my script ImportDevicePlaylists might be what you are after.

Like I export it but when I put it into itunes do I put it into itunes media or album artwork? and Yes I have it in .xml

A playlist is an ordered list of pointers to media files. If the media files themselves aren't where the playlist expects them to be then the entries in the list will be ignored. .

Put "what" there?

You don't put the xml file anywhere.

The file is "automatically add to tunes" and if I don't put it in there then am lost. I have the music already on my itunes libaray from my ipod, all I want to do is transfer them into my window's itunes libaray.

As turingtest2 noted, a playlist is simply a list of songs. It does not contain any song files.

If you want to take the songs off your iPod and put them into iTunes..

iTunes menu File > Devices, select your device then Transfer Purchases.

This will transfer only your iTunes purcahses.
