Newton 120
Hello,
I have a Newton 120. A nice, fun gadget. Just trying to figure out all the possibilities for input and output:
_Card Slot:_ - it seems it can only read PCMCIA flash storage memory cards, correct? I've seen Third-party software for Newton 2000, 2100 and eMate that allow those to use PCMCIA Wireless cards to join Wi-Fi networks, but wasn't sure if there was any way possible to do it with the Newton 120. What types of cards can the 120's card slot read aside from flash storage? Any limitations on capacity of these cards?
_Serial port:_ I've figured out how to get it to back up to my PowerBook 3400c's serial port via AppleTalk, and the Newton Backup Utility. I can back it up and install packages onto it no problem. What else can the serial port of the Newton be used for? Any other peripherals out there?
_Syncing options?_ Can it sync with OS X 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6? (I need to get a USB to serial adapter, I suppose? Or can it sync to OS X via infrared?)
-- Otherwise how do I sync contacts/calendars to it on Mac OS 8.6? I can use the Newton Backup utility to install packages, but can't figure out any type of sync options.
_Infrared port:_ Supposedly it can beam data to/from you Mac and to/from other Newtons. I don't have another Newton, and can't figure out how to get it to talk to my Mac (again it's a PowerBook 3400c w/ Mac OS 8.6). In the OS, all I can see related to the Infrared port is the "beam" menu option for contacts, calendars and notes. Can the infrared port be used for other data? If so, how? (I remember seeing infrared calendar/contact sync applications for Newton OS 2.1 devices, but not for 120 or 130...)
_Internet connectivity options?_ The question says it all. Aside from the Fax modem accessory and using dial up, how the heck do these older model Newtons get online, if at all?
