Computer won't recognize new Shuffle

Just got my new 4th Gen. Shuffle in the mail and connected it to my mac laptop but it won't recognize it. I've tried "resetting" the shuffle using Apple's directions, I've restarted my computer, downloaded the latest version of iTunes and NOTHING! Anyone else having issues? Do I need to call? This is ridiculous...

I apologize, the issue was the cable was not properly connected, you have to push it hard till it clicks. I take back what I said about quality, but I would like to suggest for future iPods the fact of being PLUG & PLAY without having to install iTunes, even the cheapest brands are PLUG & PLAY with no extra software.

Thanks for understanding and sorry for the bla bla, I do wanna keep trusting on Apple. Hope it helps others.

Tried 2 Shuffles through the front USB on my Dell, and rec'd the same error msg. both time: USB Device not recognized. Plugged it into one of the 4 USB ports on the back of the computer, and bingo, everything was fine. I'm guessing the front are not "high power" USB ports and the back may be. In any case, glad it worked. Hope this helps.

My problem was solved by pushing on the plug harder.

+iPods the fact of being PLUG & PLAY without having to install iTunes, even the cheapest brands are PLUG & PLAY with no extra software.+

ITunes comes preinstalled with your Mac product, what other software are you talking about?
peecees come with some preinstalled audio software for the cheap brands you point out.

On a similar note......
Having 6 grandchildren, I have been buying them all iPod Shuffles when they get to about 8 or 9.
Just bought the latest child a new Shuffle, (4th Generation), but my old eMac running on OSX 10.4.11, now seems too ancient to sync and allow the new one to download her music.....!
Seems a pity, as up to this new purchase, all others (5) have sync'd OK for each of them.
Wonder if my iTunes (v 9) or another sync program can link new shuffle to my older set-up.......don't really want to get newer Mac model as this one does all I need it to do......!
Any thoughts on the matter.............?

You don't need a new computer, you just need to find a copy
of Mac OSX 10.5.x ...

It's really discouraging to see that so many people have trouble with this same issue. Even after calling Apple support twice, I can't get my two new shuffles to work. The first time I called, the tech told me I had to uninstall and reinstall iTunes.(I have Mac OSX 10.5.8 and iTunes 10.5). So I did that but still got this notice, "iTunes has destected an iPod that appears to be corrupted." When I called back the second time, I was told that they couldn't help me in more depth unless I wanted to purchase phone support package. Really, as if I haven't paid enough for my iMac, ipod touch, ipod nano and two ipod shuffles!! As an Apple stock holder I suppose I should be happy they are trying to maximize revenue but this is going too far. Support for such a simple and widespread problem should be free. Ideally there should not be any problem at all. My iPod Touch works fine with iTunes 5. Only these new 4th gen shuffles are giving me trouble. I am very disappointed. I will going to try to update my OS to 10.6.8.( I won't upgrade to Lion because then I'll lose the use of my Adobe CS2 Suite.) If Apple expects consumers to constantly buy their products and then have to pay for support (not to mention upgrade expensive software like Adobe Creative Suite to be able to use latest OS) then they are out of touch with current economic reality. Due to this, rather than buy the iPad, I bought the Amazon Fire and am using their cloud. I am sick & tired of problems with iTunes.
