Ipod Touch 4g terrible standby battery life?

Hi I have a new ipod touch 4g. When I go to bed at night the battery level is about 80%. I put it in standby mode and then 9 hours later the battery level is less than 20%.

Is anyone else having this problem with their touch 4g? Or should I exchange it?

Hi,

I am having the same problem as you. I used my Gen 4 iPod Touch last night and then put it in standby mode. I didn't use it before I went to work today, but when I came home tonight the battery was completely dead.

I had transfered over all of the apps from my Gen 1 Touch, but I have no idea which one(s) might be draining the battery so fast.

I bought my wife a 64GB 4th gen iPod touch, and after a full night on charge from the power outlet, I went to work in the morning. Upon my return that evening, the battery was so low that I had to recharge it just to get it turned on.

I returned that iPod to the Apple store on Saturday, and the replacement is equally bad. I have tried to test it by removing all the apps, switching email to manual fetch, and turning wifi off. This was the last straw, as we shouldn't have to adjust settings to make a product work as described.

This will also be going back to the store on saturday, for a refund, and not an exchange!

JW124, before you return the iPod touch, try to reset the network settings as I suggested in my earlier post. It may not work for you, but it has worked successfully for many who have purchased the G4 touch. It only takes a few seconds to reset the network, so you have nothing to lose by trying it.

If the reset doesn't work, then it seems like you have tried just about everything else, so I would agree that you should probably return it.

I am having issues with battery life too. Charged my iPod Touch 1G and 4G to 100% at the same time yesterday evening. Tonight my 1G has 89% battery life. My 4G won't turn on because it says the battery is too low. A few seconds after I plug my iPod 4G in to charge again it is all of a sudden at 50% battery life. So which is it...am I at almost dead battery or 50% battery?

This is a brand new iPod 4G right out of the box. Shazam is the only app I have installed. Otherwise it is factory settings as I am waiting for my case to arrive until I use it.

Definitely not impressed with this at all. Will likely return it for store credit and wait it out.

What the H did Apple do when they brought iOS4...my battery life ***** can't get through the day even minimal usage!!!! I have stop recommending the iTouch and will not buy any more from Apple, my friend has already cancel his order for the new one! What a bunch of "crap" take good hardware & F it up...well at least I don't have to deal with iTunes (another piece wonderful software) while not using my Touch!!

Last night I charged up my battery to 100% and put the ipod in flight mode. Many apps were still in the multitasking bar. I woke up about 12 hours later and the phone still had 100% battery life!

So it looks like wifi is the issue here... but just to be sure, I will leave wifi on tonight while closing all of the apps and then report my results back.

In other news, I was contacted by applecare and they asked me to describe the problem. So hopefully we can figure something out.

I thought that my battery was draining really fast because I was using bluetooth. I know that plays a factor but it seemed too low for just using it for less than thirty min. I hope this is something apple can fix with some kind of update or something. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this problem. If this can't be resolved soon, I'll be returning my ipod touch for a full refund.

i'm also having the battery life issue, but i think it might have been because i had apps running in the background...

the task bar is the thing that comes up with you double click the home button. i think all the apps in here, are ones running in the background. mine was filled with almost every one of my apps. touch and hold one of the apps (like you would to delete an app on the home screen) in the task bar, and then start closing them. i just did this so i don't know if it's the answer, but will know soon.

YES!!! I performed the exact same test. My ipod touch 4g is losing battery very very fast...unless I put it in Flight mode. I am 100% sure its either wifi issue or the Push service as the problem. This weekend i'll turn off Push notification service to see if this fixes it. Push notification can be turned off and instead you can set it to pull every 15min.

Lastly, my ipod touch has NO background apps running. I will charge to 100%, perform a reboot and clean everything from the running tray. Then 10hrs later its either dead or battery < 20%.

BUT I don't understand why my ipod touch will charge so instantly to something like 30-40% in a few minutes. Some fishy is going on here.

Also, I should mention that i'm using exchange server as my email server for the push service. Maybe its the combination of the Push service and exchange thats the bug draining our devices.

PS. My iphone 4 also is exhibiting this problem. 25% of the battery was gone from sitting idle all night after a full charge (10hrs later). And my phone had no SIM card so its on wifi only (because i'm a developer)

just got my ipod touch 4g and i love it but im experiencing the same problem as most when the battery died for the first time, it was completely drained to the point where i couldn't even turn it on, then when i plug it in to charge it turns on and says it's charging and i have 50% battery ***? if this problem still persists after a week or two it goes back.

I have a fix!!! Bad news, the bug involves 802.11g routers. (and as others on this forum have found wifi has connection issues too)

Fact: my ipod touch 4g battery lasts 8hrs from full charge on STANDBY...802.11g router is causing problems with my touch.

Fact: my ipod touch loses no battery while connected to 802.11n router.

Interesting: Both routers are running the same custom firmware...dd-wrt.
