Ipod Touch 4g terrible standby battery life?

Hi I have a new ipod touch 4g. When I go to bed at night the battery level is about 80%. I put it in standby mode and then 9 hours later the battery level is less than 20%.

Is anyone else having this problem with their touch 4g? Or should I exchange it?

when the battery is very less, and when you charge it,it will in very less time come to 75% charged.when the battery is 100% charged it will deplete very slowly.but if it is 90 or less it deplets very fast.this is a common experience of ipods and it also happens on mobiles.and dont overcharge it by leaving it overnight,it damages the battery and it will deplte very fat even when it is completely charged.

Hi, new user, just came to the "light side" about three weeks ago from the awful MS Zune "dark side".

I love my iPod 4 gen, no doubt. However, the battery drain was getting to me. Push notifications is off, all notifications are off for everything, airplane mode is on, screen is dim enough for me to be able to read outside, etc. Typical trouble-shooting to solve the problem, you all know the drill.

But! I just discovered something while surfing for an answer for this question, and what I had to do to try to fix this issue:

1. Click your home button.

2. Once there, double-click the home button

3. Examine what shows up in the row; click the minus sign to turn the apps off.

I had about TEN apps running in the background, sucking the life out of my iPod, and never even knew it.

Hope this helps you! I sent in a "how can we make the iPod better" suggestion saying to have it so that if you hit the home button, all apps turn off. That would be nice.

Thank you, Solid! After weeks of frustration with the battery life of my iPod Touch 4g, which started after installing iOS 5, I tried your suggestion. Yesterday I reset the network settings and now my iPod barely loses battery on standby. Before, it would drain 50% of the battery overnight. Today, it only drained 10%. Thanks!

I have the same problem. I know it's no comparison, but my 1st gen can go on for over a week on standby with wifi on which goes off automatically. My 4th gen with iOS 5.1 can't even last a day even when on standby. However, I noticed that if I turned off wifi before going on standby, the battery drain is reduced drastically. So it has something to do with it not being able to turn wifi off by itself?

And why isn't an Apple rep replying to this thread so that we have an official acknowledgement of the issue instead of us doing all the troubleshooting for them?

I just bought my new white itouch, 8gb, 4g, last week.

The battery dies incredibly quickly.

It doesn't really lose the charge when it's on hibernate, but it loses it while I'm using it.

I haven't done anything on it besides playing games or browsing the internet so far.

It was fully charged earlier, but I used it a bit.

The main thing I took note of was that I played an app for about 11 minutes, with the backlight on auto adjust, and it went from 80% to 70%. It lost 10% in just 11 minutes.
