How to add pauses to phone dialing?

With my old Motorola phone, I could add a "p" to the dialing sequence of a number in the phone book to get the phone to pause a second or two while dialing, to assist with dialing automated phone systems. The keypad for the iPhone has no letters. How do I do a "brief pause" with the iPhone?

To add a pause to a stored number (i.e. in your contacts list), in Address Book you use a comma. When entering a contact number on the iPhone (i.e. in the Contacts app), at the bottom left of the keypad there's a + * # button, tap that, and you'll see a pause button, tap that to add a "comma" or "pause". Each pause is about 2 seconds, to add more time, add more commas.
