Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply
ask a new question.
I ordered mine September 1st and my CC was put in Pending Status this morning for the purchase of the ATV and the shipping charge, but both are seperate charges. That makes me think it will ship in a day or two. I am guessing tomorrow.
That is a Hold that you are seeing, not a charge. Here are the examples to easily explain this...
For example, if an individual has a credit limit of $100 and uses a credit card to make a purchase at a retail store for $30, then his available credit will immediately decrease to $70. This is because the merchant has obtained an authorization from the individual's bank by swiping the card through its credit card terminal. If the billing statement was sent out at that point, the actual charges would still be $0, because the merchant has not actually collected the funds in question. The actual charge is not put through until the merchant submits their batch of transactions and the banking system transfers the funds.
A debit card works slightly differently. Similar to the previous example, if one has a balance of $100 in the bank and used a debit card to make a purchase at a retail store for $30, then his available balance will immediately decrease to $70 as a hold on the $30 is enacted. This is because the merchant has obtained an authorization from the individual's bank by swiping the card through its credit card terminal. However, the actual balance with the bank is still $100, because the merchant has not actually collected the funds in question. However, unless this authorization hold expires without being finalized the user cannot access that part of their account. The actual balance will not be reduced until the merchant submits their batch of transactions and the banking system transfers the funds.
So they didn't actually charge your card, more like checking to make sure when they are ready to take the money you have enough there to take!! Hopefully this clears up some confusion on the process.

You talk like you think I don't know how it works. I do.
When I ordered my Apple TV on September 1st I got a pending charge to confirm the charge, then that went away after a few days. That is normal and as expected.
Now there is another pending charge on my card for the Apple TV. That is also normal and as expected. That means there is movement toward a shipment of my Apple TV. This latest charge would not be there if they was not preparing to ship.
shipping date still says "September"....UGH! Guess that means I'm getting it within 6 days?! You'd think that if they were to live up to this, and only have 6 days left, that they would have a better estimation of when it will be shipped...
Yep same here. Nothing for my order(of Sept 1) yet. Getting down to the nitty-gritty.
I suspect/hope there will be a big flurry of activety this weekend and early next week to get 'ship dates' within Sept.
Otherwise - Lucy(Apple) has some 'splaining' to do. Which Apple does not like to do.
Just trying to help there guy, as you called them charges when they are holds. I never had any attitude like I said just trying to clear it up for those who don't understand the process. I never mentioned anything about whether or not they were getting ready to ship. Lay off the energy drink...
I wouldn't get to optimistic. I ordered on the 1st, due "September" still no activity on tracking or credit card. I also ordered an iPod touch on the 1st, the first sign of movement was on the 7th showing it leaving China, then to Alaska, then to Memphis, then delivered to me in So Cal on the 9th. CC charged on the 8th. If the Apple TV is coming the same way I may not see any sign until the 28th.
If it will actually get to me by the 30th and that's an assumption, nothing was promised.
Don't you hate the anticipation?
u r right...just relax and do something more meaningful...
as i said, products are fantastic and incredible design...the rest (supply chain, order management, customer services, etc.) could use significant improvement - just plain business operations). well, it cares less as it seems.
my credit card was already charged and the money was taken out, but my status still says shipment: September, i just checked when was the money taken out and its the 22nd of september
Yup, mine just changed to 'prepared to ship' also. 9pm pacific. It will be interesting to see from where it ships, china or is it in the states already.
