iPod Touch 4th Gen Battery Issue
I have 2 4th gen Touch and they are both behaving the same way.
Any ideas?
Is it possible that FaceTime is polling or something?

I also have the same problem and have read a lot of these replies, I'm sure that turning off wifi and making sure you close all running apps helps with battery life but thats why I bought the latest Ipod, so I would get my emails on the go and get facebook notifications etc. If I turn everything off then I might as well go back to my ipod nano. Has anyone successfully got a refund on grounds that the device is not fit for purpose?
I know what you're saying, and after turning the airplane mode on at work all the time I find it doesn't make all that much difference. I have to charge it every day. I'm ****** about this, but there's not a lot we can do. We got screwed. I know several other people who are thinking about buying them,I'm going to advise them to buy something different.
Since Apple devices have ion batteries, you have to do the full charge at least once a month. To do the full charge, you have to
Put the iPod to 20% remaining battery. Then you charge it fully. If
You are leaving your iPod uncharged and on every
Night, the next day you realized your battery is low. You have to turn it off fully by holding down the on/off button for
About 8 seconds and it should pop up with a screen that says. Slide to
Turn off. To turn it on again hold the on button and it should
Show an apple icon.
Thankyou Mike171717. As I am a new apple user and just got an ipod touch from friend 4 days ago, did not know how to turn off apps in background. Will try some of the other power saving methods described in this thread also and see how I go. Love my ipod but was baffled by poor battery performance, this advice WAS helpful. Thankyou! 🙂
I have just bought a 32 gig 4th Generation to replace a 2nd and wish that I hadn’t bothered because the battery life is so appalling.
I phoned the Service Centre in the UK and explained how my battery was running down much faster than my old iPod, despite having the same settings, apps etc. and the guy agreed that it sounded like there was a hardware problem and arranged for me to return it. Excellent customer service so far.
I sent it off to Apple and it came back this week, after a couple of days with them, with a standard letting saying that they had checked it and it was performing to spec. No details of what tests they had done. Nothing. And they kept my perfectly applied, bubble-free, screen saver!
Before I go back to them to say that I’m not satisfied, I thought I’d take a look on here. I now realise that I was extremely naive to have believed the Service Centre, and that the 4th Gen is basically rubbish compared to my 2nd.
I am grateful to have found the advice on closing the apps, but I wholeheartedly agree with the comments raised about “what’s the point of having the nice shiny functionality if you have to turn it all off…?”.
I wish I’d know about the battery issue before I’d bought it, because I would have researched a different manufacturer/product. All I can do now is warn others who are thinking of buying one. You live and learn!
Same problem here. If I'm going to use it straight, its only for an hour and a warning will tell flash that it's already in low batt status. It would be useless if I'm going to turn off the wifi or turn on the airplane mode since I always retrieve my email as well as messages from different social networking sites. I have read all of your comments and it seems that the company snt able to address this issue.
I hope they will address this problem. With my iPad 2, I dont have battery issues.
i have just bought a brand new iPod 4th gen 8gig. and the battery life su**s . will apple address this issue ?i have to charge it at least 3 times a day . and it only last 3hrs when i play games .i even turn on the airplane mode and close all the running apps but still the battery life is too short . should i return it ? now i realize that i have just wasted my money for this gadget . need help . thanks >
can I do a refund when i return my ipod to the authorized seller where i bought it ? thanks
APPLE should address this issue . now there is a 5th gen what will happen to the problems in 4th gen . i not satisfied with its battery performance
did you get a refund ? thanks
Hey, It seems like your new to apple. Well when it dissapers it is still charging, The screen is just on standby.
My 4th Gen is 15 months old and the battery runs down in a matter of minutes. I think this version's battery is pathetic and the fact that they are soldered in just exacerbates the problem. I'll be ****** if I'll pay $80 to replace something that has such a short life. I've been a loyal Apple fan for 20 yrs. I don't mind paying a premium price for a quality product but having a 15 month old $400 paperweight is pathetic. If this is now their idea of quality product now, then this may just be my last iPod.
Same thing on the iPhone 4 I just bought. Only been charged once and I'm lucky if the battery holds up one day on stand by..their batteries are a piece of Shlt. I guess we'll have to pack a car battery around with us so the battery will last all day.
I have a 4th generation iPod touch 8gb. I've had it and since December 25th of 2011. It had worked perfectly fine with everything on (wifi, notifications, email, etc.) and it would last me for about 2 days after charging it with a computer/wall charger. Now, if I'm listening to music or playing a game, it lasts me 10 minutes before the battery dies. I use a wall charger and sometimes the computer. I've tried restoring it and replacing my data, but that didn't do anything. I've erased my data and settings and manually replace my data and nothing happened. So I took it to the Genius Bar and he told me that it wasn't a battery problem. I've tried restoring to previous iOS's and that still didn't work. I'm so confused and I don't know what to do. I've tried usind my iPod in airplane mode and turning off everything but nothing happens. Should I replace it? Should I get an older iPod?
