Battery Issues After Installing IOS 4.1 on iPod Touch

I just updated to IOS 4.1 and my batter life is pathetic. I had major batter degradation issues when I originally installed the IOS 4.0 upgrade. However, Apple released a new patch a coupe of weeks later which fully resolved the battery problems.

Then, after installing 4.1 a couple of weeks ago, all my battery problems resurfaced. I try turning off notification and location services but it makes no difference. After about 8 hours of letting my iPod Touch 2nd gen sit idle (turned off) the battery drains completely. The only way to resolve the issue is to turn off wireless completely which is a real pain.

Whatever Apple has done in 4.1 is obviously causing me a problem.

BP96,

I followed your instructions. At first it did not work. From a full charge the night before, the battery was completely drained the next morning. So I repeated steps 1 and 2. This time, I turned off Notifications. If you have the Facebook app, turn off all the push notifications. I also made sure location services is off (although I'm not sure that's the culprit).

So now it seems to be OK and the excessive battery usage is no longer occurring.

I hope that Apple releases a patch that gets ot the root of this problem.

Thanks.

everyone with a 2nd generation ipod touch using ios 4.1 has had shortened battery lifespan issues. for some, ios 4.1 would cause the ipod to crash, and for others, not. personally, I took my ipod to apple, and had it replaced twice, but the first one wasn't broken to begin with, so I guess we just have to wait for iOS 4.2 to be released. hopefully, this will fix the problem!
