iphone deleting emails automatically after two days...why?
iPhone OS 3.1.3
iPhone OS 3.1.3
I'm having the same problem. My AT&T emails are disappearing from my AT&T inbox and iphone 4 and transfer to a Trash folder...not the trash can. However, my Yahoo account emails remain in the In Box. I had no problems with receiving emails on my phone until I activated Outlook 2010 on a new laptop. Have tried the solutions above but to no avail including the one from Cornelios. AT&T points the finger at Apple saying the phone is deleting the messages from their server yet the Yahoo account is not affected. Apple has no solution either. Totally frustrated. Any other suggestions?
Hi Carolyn,
I will send you picture by picture guide including my phone settings, i will gladly guide you throught the options until your phone is fixed. I went through alot of options myself and it was frustrating until i found my own solution. It works for me and it worked for other people. I will wait for your respond to help you.
Cheers.

Hi Carolyn,
I forgot to mention also the account settings in Outlook 2010 you have to go to File--> Info --> Accout Settings --> Account Settings and after doing this you should see the box with your email in it, follow my previous post details and you should be able to fix it.
Cheers
Cornilios...you are a legend! From now on, all my queries will come your way! LOL Thank you so much...it really was so annoying I almost gave up on the idea that I could save messages on my iphone. Who needs apple technical support when we have you! Brilliant, thank you!!! 🙂
Hi Georgie Pie,
Wow i already feel special LOL😝 I think apple should hire me instead of their apple technicians. Honestly i almost gave up too but it was my brain who didn't give up. Thank you very much for your feedback, i really appreciate it. I am happy that your problem was fixed and i will look forward in helping you with future problems IF there will be any LOL.
Have a great day. 😉
Cheers
This worked for me, much thanks.
Hi Cornilios
Your solution is not the correct solution. Let me explain. After reading through these posts there are different problems and your solution is only a small part of the problem. The main problem is that people are not setting up their iphone account correctly. Here is the complete solution:
Setting up your Iphone:
If you are setting up a gmail/yahoo etc account then choose gmail/yahoo etc when adding a new account.
If you are setting up an ordinary account like username@yourdomain.com etc etc then use "other", see callumfromlivingston post on the first page.
When using "other", you must choose pop account not imap, otherwise emails will be deleted out of your inbox.
Setting up Outlook:
After you have setup your new account in Outlook you need to go into advance, follow Cornilios steps above ie (tick - "Leave a copy of messages on the server") but also tick - "Remove from server after" and enter how many days you want. This setting (how many days) is a compromise between the size of the emails you get over this period (make sure it will not exceed your mail box quota) and how offen you receive mail on your phone.
If you don't tick remove from server after...then your mailbox will continue to grow until it exceeds your mailbox quota and therefore you will not receive anymore mail until some are deleted. Then when you delete, the deleted emails will disappear out of your iphone inbox, back to the same problem, unless you have set it up correctly as I've just explained above.
cheers

Further to the above, if you are using a gmail/yahoo account you should set it up as an imap on your Outlook, this allows your sent emails from the gmail account in outlook to also add the sent message to your iphone.
The instructions I gave for setting up Outlook above is for ordinary email accounts only.
I did that also and everything worked great, all original emails returned and nothing has deleted by itself this whole week so thanks.
I recommend anyone having this problem to give this a go. 🙂
Cornilios - That fixed it for my problem. Awesome! Thanks bud.
Surely if you add an "Other" account on the iphone, as IMAP, it and you delete the email from your phone, it will delete it from the server.
If you set it up as POP3, surely it will only delete from the Server as well, if you specifically tell it to do that in iphone's settings??
I know there is no option to delete from handheld and/or server on a "per email" basis. But is this possible in the settings somewhere?
Cornelius' solution almost worked for me...but I discovered that after ticking the Leave on server box in advanced settings, clicking "ok" then "cancel" did NOT save the change. I had to go through the "next" screens and "finish."
I called AT&T and did indeed change POP to IMAP with the assistance of an AT&T tech. It's working now!!
