Does the new 4th gen ipod touch come with a protective case?

Also, does it include any other accessories, like a screen protector?

No, it does not come with a case or a screen protector. Not from Apple, anyway. There may be a store somewhere that is offering them as a combo...you know...buy an iPod Touch and we'll throw in this screen protector and a case for free. Or for some price. In fact, I have been searching the web for a case for my iPod Touch 4th generation. There are many, many cases and things for the first, second and third generation iPod Touchs, but nothing for the 4th generation. It is too new. Not Apple's fault. It only came out a few weeks ago. Companies will be selling cases for them soon, I'm sure. I purchased a case for the iPhone 4th generation. The two 4th generation units (iPod Touch and iPhone) are very, very close in size. The only difference is the height. I can tell you that the case does not quite fit. The iPod Touch slides a bit inside the case. Depending on what kind of case you want to buy, it might not matter.

As for the protective screens, yes they are for sale for the 4th generation iPod Touch. Do a search on the web (Google, Bing, Yahoo, whatever) and you will find them. I purchased some from Amazon.com. They have not come yet. In fact, I just received notification that they were shipped today. But these protective screens are just for the 4th generation iPod Touch--they have holes where the camera and the power button are. I can't tell you how good they are yet. They were 3 for about ten dollars. I could have purchased less screens, but the price per screen was higher, obviously.

Good luck, have fun and enjoy your 4th generation iPod Touch!

The iPod touch 4th generation and IPhone 4 are not even close in size, the iPhone 4 is obviously about twice as thick as the new touch. And I do think it's Apples fault, they should have atleast 1 case available to buy when you pay $400 for an iPod. They are so secretive, they don't give manufacture's a chance to get them in production in time for the release of the iPod. And it is sad that the iPods don't come with atleast 1 screen protector. The screen size hasn't changed, so I'm sure the same screen protector that is for the 2nd and 3rd gens will be the same for the 4th.

The new iPod touch has more pixels per square inch than previous models. Pixels are the small, square shaped pieces of what you see. Have you ever zoomed in on a digital picture so far that it gets blurry and you see small, different colored squares? Those are pixels. If you have never done that, try it sometime. You will see what I mean. So according to Apple, they have figured out how to make small pixels, smaller than any pixels so far. By having so many pixels close together, it can overcome small differences in color. That makes things appear more crisp and clear. Together with a photo sensor that samples the light and makes changes in the brightness from the inside accordingly. If there is more light outside, they probably need less light inside the iPod. If there is less light outside, they may increase the brightness.It does the same thing with the angle the light is coming from. All of this is supposed to make it much easier to see things on the iPod Touch. Me, I'm too stupid to see know if it really works. But I'll take their word for it. I do know things look great.

Thanks for the info, KipDrordy.
I went there and noticed that they have some cases/skins/etc' already in stock and some temporary unavailable.

Regarding the screen protectors, they have 1 available
* satinSHIELD t4 - 2 Anti-glare Screen Protectors for iPod touch (Gen 4)

The following 2 are "Shipping mid- September" (?!) what is NOW?! 🙂 and you can pre-order them.
* proFLECT t4 - 2 Mirrored Screen Protectors for iPod touch (Gen 4) and
* klearCOAT t4 - 3 Ultra-Clear Screen Protectors for the iPod touch (Gen 4)

As I don't suffer too much from glare in my iPod, I decided to wait for the ultra-clear.

As for the case I am already waiting for the last 2 weeks for one of those 2 (a matter of personal preference and "taste"):

I am waiting also for my local Costco to get the 4g 64 GB iPod and buy it there (90 days returning policy+ good price).

My Costco has only 8GB's in stock.
Several years ago I bought the 2nd gen. ipod and a few weeks later the 3rd gen. came out so I returned it to get a 3rd gen.
Today however , I don't see returning it within 90 days (Costco's new return policy) so I'm going to Amazon for free shipping and no tax.
btw I think the Costco price was 4 or 5 dollars off.

I know I'm going to buy a 4th generation iPod touch soon (between Thanksgiving and Christmas hopefully) and am also looking for a case. I was considering getting one from Skinit. Has anyone ordered from them and have a review they are willing to share? I've heard that it protects the iPod from scratches but not when it falls and am wondering is it then worth the $20 for the skin?

I highly recommend using a screen protector. I don't have long fingernails or anything that would cause my screen to scratch easier then others but still have some scratches on my screen protector. Even if the display looks better with no screen protector, it won't look as good if there is a scratch or two that can't be "removed" by replacing the screen protector. When I ordered my iPod 2nd generation from Apple refurbished last year, it did come with some sort of screen protector over the screen. It might not be an "official" screen protector, but there was something between my finger and the screen.

I recently bought this gel case off eBay for $8.00. It has a nice rubbery grip to it, fits like a glove and even protects the screen when you lay it on a flat surface. I like that the case is clear too so you can see the nice shiny chrome back through it. It actually looks better in person than the picture below. User uploaded file
