"KSURL (nobody)" Help!!!

"KSURL (nobody)" Help!!!

I have tried every Terminal Command I can Find to remove ALL Google software from my Mac and it is not working. I am still getting the message "KSURL (nobody) wants to connect to google..." etc.

Has anyone figured out how to remove or disable Google Updater???

I found this - look at the bottom of the page; it includes instructions to uninstall:

http://tools.google.com/mac/updaterfaq.html#howuninstallupdater

It appears you have to use the updater to uninstall all other software first and then uninstall the updater itself.

Thanks for the info, but I have seen this and the problem is I cannot find "Google Updater" or "My Software List" on my computer. Do you know where it is located?

FYI: I am running Little Snitch and every time I switch users I get the message "KSURL (nobody) wants to connect to google..." twice!! I always select "Deny" and "Forever". I have also looked at the LS rules and "KSURL" now has about 15 rules, all the same... deny-forever.

I have read that it is a clandestine installation by Google for it's Software Updater. I also believe it reports other statistics to them and I am not in favor of allowing Google anymore control of my life than they already have! (TG for LS!)

I agree with that! No, I do not have any Google software - I would never install anything like that, so I can't look for it. Have you done a full (and more thorough than Spotlight) search for it:

in Finder, hit Command + F
Change "Kind" in the drop down to "System files"
Change "aren't included" to "are included"
Type in your search phrase

Those things can be pesky; I tried to help a neighbor who had unwittingly installed a similar setup from Yahoo on his Windoze machine; it was a nightmare. He finally had his son do a reinstall.

Look for com.google.keystone.agent.plist in ~/Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchAgents/. Delete any you find and restart.

I found it in ~/Library/Preferences/com.google.Keystone.Agent.plist

So, I should delete it and restart, right? It won't get recreated automatically like every other preference file?

Here's a short section of what's in the .plist file....
I opened the .plist file and I just now added the "0" after "checkInterval". I read a tip tonight that said to add a 0 and it will stop checking (?) any thoughts??

I'd like to keep Google Earth. This whole checking constantly deal just started yesterday... i have not changed anything or added any new programs.

I have google earth and never ran into your issue, but have both plists disabled. I checked them and there isn't any checkinterval in them. Only StartInterval. However, both are turned off and GE's preferences->General has Send Usage Stats turned off.

I think it pertains to Google Chrome... not sure why it has started doing this.
Here is the exact contents of the .plist I have added the "0" after checkInterval... not sure if this is the correct format/protocol.
I'm going to save, quit all and restart and see what happens.

Well, so far so good... after re-starting I logged out and back in and no "KSURL"

I'll keep an eye on this for awhile, but at the moment it looks like it may have worked!

The annoying "KSURL (nobody)" message appears to be caused by google Chrome App. and/or google sofwareupdater. It can be disabled by locating the "com.google.Keystone.Agent.plist" file in "~/Library/Preferences/" and adding a "0" after "checkInterval" like this example... ]checkInterval 0[ ... and then saving. The .plist file can be opened and edited in TextEdit. This works for OS X 10.6.4
