ELGATO TV EYE recording via freesat box to mac

I am creating a 4 min film closing film for a sports event next month.
Now I need to get footage of certain athletes throughout the week to add to this closing film.
The BBC will be broadcasting the sports event all week but I know from previous experience that getting footage from the BBC takes ages and its in Digi beta!

So i thought why dont i record the events myself and capture the transmission myself from the BBC HD channel. As far as i know SKY plus HD boxes wont let you download recorded footage so I have been looking at the ELGATO TV eye (not sure which one to get) and a FREESAT box instead, so I can record direct into my Mac Pro then bring the footage into FCP and edit it. anyone had any experience doing this? Many thanks in advance

The EYE TV records H.264 at about 6 Mb/s or so. Just be aware of that. If you have permission from BBC, I'd wait for the original tapes. You could record from the EYE TV to do a rough cut, just so you could get the creative, offline, work done. But EYE TV is also a USB connection, and you will get slightly jumpy video as frames are dropped, internet connection gets interrupted (even momentarily, like when searching for mail, or updating Tweetdeck…). I record a lot of shows on EYE TV DVR, but they never come in perfectly clean. They're okay to watch so I don't miss the show, but I sure as heck wouldn't want to use the footage to deliver a professional product.
