I agree, suitboss. I have 2 MacBook Pro's and every couple of years Apple does something to screw up iTunes. The sharing feature was working great, but now- not at all. I turned on "Home Sharing" (I was already sharing in my home, for crying out loud!) and the **** thing doesn't work. I think Apple is constantly trying to protect the "rights" of their "content providers". Maybe if they gave as much thought to making this experience seamless then- well, it would work seamlessly! Not such a hard concept.
Grrr. I am seriously on the verge of getting an iTunes replacement for managing my music. An app that respects me as a consumer would feel really nice right about now.
Not clicking "Done" leaves homesharing listed on left in my PC, but still doesn't see the ipad2, as it's not listed there. The iPad2 sees the computer, but PC doesn't see the iPad???
I had same isuue with this problem and tried everything?.. Did not work....
This morning I decided to install previous version of iTunes (10.6.0.40) on 32 bit Windows XP, so I have delete the current version 10.6.1.7 and delete any apple related folder....... Works fine on 2 of my work XP computers.
I also downloaded 10.6.0.X for 64 bit and I will try later today in home with Windows 7 64bit.....
Music Share, Movie Share, Remote and Wifi Sync... all works on my New Ipad...NICE
Have been having he same problem as many of you but after reading this thread I've just tried connecting the computer I am sharing FROM to my router via ethernet. (It was previously connected via wi-fi) So far everything now seems to be working fine, although have yet to test the apple tv connectivity. Am hoping the fix could purely be this simple!
I wish it were that easy, I've had my PC always connected to the router with ethernet wire...
As I said previously, the ipad2 sees the PC with homeshare and works fine, but for some reason the PC doesn't see the ipad?
This is ludicrous! Hundreds and hundreds of people having exactly the same problem, and Apple does nothing about it. Why are we paying so much money for these bug-ridden toys? To judge from the solutions posted here, the people who are buying these products are a lot smarter than the people who are making them. It's absurd.
Got the same problem too. In summary:
As I have only one PC, I can't test if Home Sharing works PC-to-PC.
Solutions tried on the PC:
System I'm using (PC):
64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
iTunes:
I think the problem lies on Window's iTunes (for 64-bit perhaps?).
I have similar issues with Homesharing and am also running iTunes on Win7 64bit.
Homesharing is enabled in iTunes and using my iPod Touch and the "Remote" app it will see the shared library and I can control it yet in the "Music" app the shared library is not visible.
If I then stop and start Homesharing in iTunes the "Music" app briefly sees the shared library but then it goes again.
Definitely a bug in IOS or iTunes in my mind which they should definitely sort out.
yes I agree. same problem on my MBP and iPhone 4.
We have an iPhone 4S, iPhone 3GS, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac and two iPads.
The mobile devices can see the iMac but there is no shared icon on the iMac and I cannot see anything else from it.
I have tried everrything to try and fix this but nothing works.
Does anyone from Apple ever read these forums and say to themselves 'there must a problem here, perhaps we should look into it'.
Apple was once fantastic because everything worked, now they are too big and just driven by money, perhaps too much style over substance.
If anyone (and I include Apple here) knows of a fix for this problem can they post it, it's driving me mad. I've paid my money now give me what I've paid for.
took my a long time to figure this out on my 'simple' home lan.
i had to enable this on my dlink wireless access point: Enable Multicast Streams
hope this helps someone else and sorry if this has already been suggested in this thread
I had the same issue trying to share my MacBook's music library with my 4s. In the end what fixed the problem was modifying my Firewall settings. I went into the Security tab of my System Preferences folder. Firewall was on but set to block all incoming connections. I clicked Advanced and unchecked Block All Incoming Connections. The music immediately populated my iPhone.
I hope this information proves useful to you guys. Take care!
Helped too with Icegy's solution.
Lost most apple things in my network. AppleTV visible to iphone and ipad as speakers and diplay (for example youtube and music player. But not in Apple's Remote app. Apple TV couldn't find PC, nor could PC find it.
Wi-fi syncing almost always got interrupted because iTunes couldn't start a session. And so on.
So great many thanks to you! No more wi-fi-sync for me.
/Martin
I'm awaiting Windows 8 for mobile to replace my iPhone, along with Windows 8 on the desktop. Cheers! I've moved on. 😁
I was having a heck of a time deleting itunes. Using Task Manager shut down the Apple Mobiel and the other Itunes looking processes. Then I could delete Bonjour and Itunes and Apple Mobile Device Support using Add or Remove Programs at Control Panel.
