Home sharing problems are often to do with the Router, not the machines. The key question is whether your router has "multicast streams" enabled. If you google 'multicast streams <your router name>' that might help you find out how to make sure it's possible/enabled
Hello all, I'm glad I stuck with this forum as I think I finally have my version of this problem resolved. Previously, none of my wireless devices could see my wired devices. It was as if they were on two seperate networks. My "work-around solution" for the past few months was simply putting everything on wifi. It pained me to put my main PC on a slower wifi adapter when the router was literally sitting on top of the PC but I really wanted my iTunes and remote app to work around the house, so I lived with it.
Today after reading Chris's post, I decided to do some more searching on "Verizon Fios Router multicast streams" and eventually stumbled upon this http://defenestrated.typepad.com/defenestrated/2010/12/howto-fix-bonjour-failure s-when-using-an-actiontec-verizon-fios-router.html
To summarize:
If you're experiencing similar behaviors as those listed above and have an Actiontec router, do the following:
If your network does require 802.11b support, you might try selecting "802.11b Only" rather than "802.11g Only" in step 4 above, but I can't test that on my network to know if it works or not.
This post was a little dated (2010) as there was no option for 802.11g Only but I did see an option for "legacy mode" which was g/b (but not n). Once I did this and rebooted, I was able to see my hardwired main PC with all of my wifi devices (iphone, ipad, Acer Laptop) and the remote app works like a charm... all seems well for now.
I hope this helps!
