iPhone 3G (version 3.1.3) and an iPod Touch (version 2.2.1)

I've attempted to add some apps for work (speech pathologist) onto my Touch as I don't want to have them on my iPhone/and student hands...Application Not Compatible pops ups,,,"This applicationRequires the iPhone 3.0 Software Update...Does that mean I can download that software on my touch or can only download it to an iPhone 3G or higher?

It seems that you have the 1st generation iPod touch. You can't get iOS 4 for that iPod but you're able to install iOS 3. I don't know if Apple still offer iOS 3 for download but there are sites that kept those files. Here is one that people use...

Just download the appropriate update for your iPod. Put that file in User Name>Library>iTunes>iPod Software Updates. Then click on "Restore" in the iPod preferences in iTunes but this time have the option key down and navigate to where you store the file. Let me know if you need further details.
