Good luck with that. I'm still using a 2nd Generation Nano I used new so I haven't had the issues you have.
Seems like its an on-going problem, I called support and they sent me a new one the next day but had to pay £62 !!
Solution!!! I bought the new "apple earpods." I found them cheaper than the retail price - which is $29 - online. These earpods let you: change the volume, go to the next song, go to the previous song, and it will even tell you which song is playing! All without having to turn my ipod on with the *broken* lock button. i just plugged them in and pressed play, and it just started shuffling through my songs. So happy I can finally use my ipod again! here is where i bought them, they're about $5 USD
Great advice. Makes me wish I haden't thrown mine out the car window in disgust.
Thank You Thank You Thank you ..... best advice yet ! 🙂
But what if you need to switch to a different playlist or something?
yeah.... that's the only downside :/
This just happened to me. My 6th gen is a replacement from the 1st gen battery replacement nano. Called customer support, referenced this thread and the known design flaw. Was told flat out by a rather rude support "higher up" that sorry, it's out of warranty and too bad. He said he "looked on his corporate databases" to see if this was a problem and found it wasn't, even though the 1st support person I spoke to said that he was aware this was a problem! Now I'm more put off by the rude customer service than the actual design flaw. A product of this kind of "quality" should withstand depressing the power button throughout the short life of the player. In my book, Apple is synonymous overrated.
Me and my boyfriend have 2 ipod nano with button stuck problem, one was a replacement from the 1st gen battery replacement nano, the other one was a present for my boyfriend Birthday, and today the button has gone.
The Apple should be a quality.product because is so expensive... I'm so disappointed by them
I think I'll buy an mp3 player from their competitors the next time
So disheartened by this oversight by Apple!
So many customers express disappointment in the poor quality of the only mechanical component in the Nano. It is so frustrating when you have to go and spend another £100 due to one flimsy design flaw.
Well add me to the party. I have a 6th Gen I got for last Christmas so I'm about 5 months out of warranty and after my run today, I realized I couldn't wake it up. Yup, sleep button is stuck. I have an AppleCare appointment on Wed, they said 75 to replace from Apple online, but I really want mine fixed as I'm rather partial to it. Also, I'm not switching colors, I like my Red one LOL. Wish me luck as I drag my 3 and 1 year old to the store.
MP3 Playes are bad JalenaM. Bought over 3 differnt kinds all broke. Ipod last forever. Event though the button on the 6th gen brakes a lot. The new nano is really good
bought iPod Nano before 9months, now the On/Off button is stuck. someone please give me solution. I love my iPod so much. Want it back. I am from India
As you will see by other folks reply, the best way is to return it to Apple where they then replace it for £62 ! Good luck with that one ..... I sent mine back but after many phone calls, emails etc it was eventually repleced free of charge due to things taking so long from Apple end 🙂
it costs me? 😮 but it is not my mistake
