Stuck sleep/wake button?

Hi, just bought the new iPod nano and the oddest thing has happened, the sleep/wake button is, well, stuck. If I push it I don't get a tactile response and my iPod won't wake up (worst part). Going to the genius bar on the 24th Sep to get it checked out. So if anyone experiences this issue, tell me.

This has just happened to me within the last hour. Was busy planning some GCSE listening work (I'm a teacher) and went to refresh the screen to change the track, and the button is locked, can't move it. I rang my local retail store who said to restore the settings which should fix it. Well of course, it hasn't. So they said bring it in, which will be at the end of the week now. I shall wait with interest to see what they do, and will certainly show them these pages of comments!

*Heavy sigh* Bought 2 6th Gen iPod Nanos at the same time in November as xmas presents for daughters. First sleep / wake button failure was around February and managed to get the unit sorted under warranty. The other Nano has developed the same problem now (June 2011). It was duly sent off, but then returned un-repaired as it had "cosmetic damage" which therefore apparently renders the warranty invalid. The damage referred to was a cracked glass.

The unit had been working fine with a cracked glass for 2 months until the button failure. I wasn't after getting the glass sorted, that's down to my daughter, just the sleep / wake button. The Apple approach to this seems to be unsupportable - it's the equivalent of buying a new car, dinting the wing, only to find that when the gearbox fails they wont repair it under warranty due to the "cosmetic damage" (Apple repair centre's words) elsewhere.

It's hard to believe that this isn't a known-fault manufacturing defect. It's even harder to believe that a major brand like Apple would use this sort of tactic unless the problem (and therefore their liability) is significantly greater than we all know. Looks like one for the journalists to pick up.

I'm off to book an appointment to see a *genius* (snigger), I'll let you know any joy (but don't hold your breath).
