A sad 'welcome' to our surly tribe of 6th gen mourners, BiffOne, and condolences for your loss. Amazing to see how deep in denial Apple is to go that one extra mile in changing your problem description. Hope you see a return to a more tuneful life in 2013 and that Apple comes around to take a good long look at itself.
Urrrrggghhh ,... now it happened to me too. Bought Ipod Nano 6 in Feb 2010... have used it occasionally over the last 2 years... one day it works, now the sleep/wake button is stuck. I'm not feeling good about this.
Off to the apple store we go... wish me luck!
Hey folks... Same problem here. The on/off button is stuck somewhere deep in the chassis of my 6th gen. iPod but playing music still works.
Because the device is already beyond any guarantee, I will try to fix the problem by myself with the help of the tutorials from www.ifixit.com. My technical skills are not the best but a good friend of mine is very good in fixing issues like this one... I hope this will do for me.
I'll keep you updated...
Cheers
Apple should let us turn in our dud iPod Nano 6G for a reasonable credit towards the 7G.
Howdy Nano6G refugees,
SO, I brought my little guy to a jeweler friend who specializes in clock repair (thought it was a good bet he could deal with the Nano's innards). Coincidentally, he is also a Nano6G owner, so I figured it was providence. Win-win for him in that he could make a buck and practice on my device for when his eventually bites it (and I would bet some money on that happening...). I armed him with the ifixit tear down video and the blog showing the double stick tape travesty and let him at it.
Anyhoo, turns out my problem mirrored that of poster ALLEMANZ (back a page on this topic). That tiny little dot on the inner part of the power switch was gone. It took a little time (had to order the part), but my friend was able to make the replacement and I am back to running ultra's with my tunes!
At least for as long as the new part lasts.....
I was HAPPY to give my friend some cash and deny Apple the repair fees they were demanding for the D-E-F-E-C-T.
Grrrr....Apple, no wonder your stock is falling and you are no longer the top of the heap. Undone by a dot!
Good luck, folks. I'll keep on following this thread - we are all sort of in the same tribe now.
Hey BugsDad,
thanks for your little story... Same thing with my iPod. There's also this little black dot missing. Where did you order it? My friend was also able to open the Nano using the ifixit-Guide and is now looking for an alternative to this little dot...
Cheers
Howdy from Montana, Taktwerk,
I don't know the specific vendor my friend used, but parts are pretty easily purchased from online vendors. Here's one: http://www.lunacommerce.com/2111-ipod-nano-6th-phone-jack-and-control-flex.html. They don't list a price unless you register. Allemanz got one for around nine dollars (US), which seems pretty reasonable. Good luck!
Another one bites the dust - My ipod nano 6th Gen after 1.5 yrs old - power button is stuck. After it goes to sleep, I have to dock it or plug it into the computer to wake it up. Not much use if you are at the gym and have access to neither. Shocking waste of money and absolutely disgusted that Apple have not recalled as defective. Was considering buying an iphone but after this experience will go Android instead.
Will never buy Apple again!
One more to the pile of factory defectinherited units.
My brother in law's gift from 2011's christmass just got this issue and it's 13 months old (1 month over warranty).
Called Apple and they said it would cost up to 65 USD to repair it.
Complained a lot as well, and said that there should be a recall on this given the number of posts on the internet, and the lady I was talking to just said that if I needed more time to think about it I could call them back later. . . . .
I have an iPod touch 4th gen, a shuffle 4th gen, my wife has a macbook and after seeing how this situation is being taken care of, it goes without saying that I won't be buying any Apple products in the future.
I am very disappointed on you Apple.
Yet another 6th gen failure. I recieved the ipod early January last year after I sent in my 1st gen nano with the exchange program, I assumed I would recieve a version of my nano without the battery issue but instead I got this 6th gen ipod that is also defective. Has anyone had luck getting it exchanged after the warranty expires? It's ridiculous to get punished due to a design flaw. My 1st gen nano was still working perfectly after years of daily use!
Hi! I got mine replaced, was not easy! initially I took it to the store in Glasgow where the 'genius' shrugged his shoulders and told me "too bad!". I was really angry so I asked for the head office email and he gave me an address thatvwas rubbish and didnt work. I went home, found this discussion thread, printed out the whole thing and took it to the other store in Glasgow. I explained what was wrong with it, and again got the story about paying £65 for a replacement. I gave him the print outs and told him I got them from Apples own website but he said he could say where it cane from. I eventually asked for customer service and head office contact details so he went to get the manager. Manager never appeared but told they guy to give me a replacement as a good will gesture! The one I got was clearly a refurbished one. Keep complaining, dont let them away with it!!!!!!
Hi, was your iPod under warranty and did you orignially buy it from an Apple Store? I have had mine for about 2 and a half years but I think it was from Asda and am not sure what their warranty policy is :/ I am going on holiday in two weeks time and obviously wanted my iPod for the journey, so am pretty upset that it has broke. Thanks.
Another stuck power/home button 6th Gen Nano added to the pile.
I feel really gypped. The only reason why I have this 6th Generation Nano is because of Apple's recommended Replacement Program for my 1st Gen Nano (which has been working totally fine except for the now warned battery safety issue ). Thanks for replacing a faulty product for another faulty product. I'm dissappointed.
🙂 I also got the same response and the've replaced by iPod Nano(16GB) and had given me a fresh piece (iPod only).
Well... I wasn't going to the store. Instead I ordered these little parts, opened the iPod following the instructions from ifixit.com, replaced them and now it's working fine again... :)
