Can I connect my MacBook Pro to a PA System?

I am using some loops in Garage Band for a live performance. What is my best way to to get this to a PA System to play along with?

I have an M-Audio FastTrack Pro which I am hoping would do the trick by using the MIDI outputs or the balanced outputs. Not sure this will work.

The other option I think would be to get a sterio 1/8" to 1/4" cable to go from the headphones jack the board. I would prefer to not use that mac's audio jack though as the connection is not always the greatest.

Anyone have suggestions for the best audio quality from the mac to the PA??

I recently used my MBP on a deejaying gig, and here's how I did it:

I purchased a "Y" cable (small male headphone plug on one end, split into red and white RCA type male connector on the other), plugged it into the headphone jack on my laptop, then hooked the RCA connectors to the appropriate inputs on my powered mixer.

If you need to plug into a snake, or directly into a board on stage, you might be able to find a similar adapter that features an XLR type connection instead of the RCAs.

I got mine at Target, but for something more specialized and suited for live music production, you might try a music shop or even Guitar Center.

Good luck!
