FaceTime in Bosnia?

I just recently got my factory unlocked (SIM-free) iPhone 4. I have a valid US iTunes account but am currently living in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I activated my iP4 fine as always (this is my fourth iPhone so far and I never had any problems using any of them here), but now I am stuck at the FaceTime "waiting for activation" message. I am using a local SIM card from BH TELECOM, and have both SMS and 3G plan active. I am aware that there is still no Bosnian iTunes store (hence my US account)and that this carrier is not officially supported, but was wondering if it's still possible to activate FT from here? There are many US folks living and working here, (mainly using iPhone) so any help would be really appreciated. Anyone?

Actually I have performed many resets so far (soft, hard, network etc..) and updated to OS 4.1, to no avail so far. Funny thing is, my colleague came by yesterday and swapped my SIM card with his SIM from a German operator (he is currently roaming) and VOILLA! FaceTime was activated instantly, but then I reinserted my SIM again only to find that annoying "waiting for activation" message again. Confused.. At home, I am behind Airport Extreme router which he was also using for WiFi when he activated FT, so ports are no issue here. I even tried inserting my SIM into his iP4 which has FT activated, but same thing happens. Isn't there any workaround possible to get it working for BH Telecom SIM cards? IMHO, some sort of e-mail activation would be much more applicable for FT, cause there are apparently many people who are in the same boat as mine throughout the Europe. Why does the FT have to be tied to "supported operators" especially when you purchase a factory unlocked device for $$$ and find it unable to use via WiFi???
C'mon Apple 🙂

FaceTime requires a supported carrier, and it is unlikely you'll get FaceTime activated in Bosnia if you're not using a network that is specifically designed to support the iPhone (if such exists). This is like the situation in the US. Many iPhone users are using unlocked phones with T-mobile. They can make calls, send texts, get data (granted at EDGE speeds only), but since it is a non-supported network, those users are unable to activate FaceTime on their phones.

That's just the way it is. There is a disclaimer on the bottom of Apple's iPhone page that specifically states that not all features are available in all places.

Listen. I have an iPhone 4 and working for BHTelecom (the sim card you are using). I didn't manage to activate FT either, however it is not because the operator is not supported. We are trying to find a solution to this problem inside BHTelecom but with no success so far.

The story of non supported operators is not true since none of the operators in Serbia are selling iPhone and still they are able to activate FT.

Anyways, we are working on this inside BHT trying to resolve the issue. We are not sure what the problem is and if someone from Apple could give us some inputs here we would appreciate it very much because there are lot of poople using iPhone here in Bosnia. Nevertheless, not one SIM card of any of three operators is able to activate FT for now in Bosnia (tried all three). Hope BHT will be the first.

Tarik

@TarikSA - Entered info per instructions on support page (done that before, redid it just to be on the safe side) - failure to send or receive MMS! Called people at 1444, they told me that I have Mms account active (again I knew that as I can see the MMS inbox on bhtelecom portal), and they've cut me short as soon as I told them I have an Iphone, explaining that Iphone is not an device on supported list?

Please send me the exact details on mms fields to be entered or screenshot from your phone.

Thank you!

One other thing, please call 1423 and try to make an appointment in BHTelecom support center if you are in Sarajevo and go see them on Ilidža to try to resolve your issue.

You could also come to my office but I would give you the same settings and solutions as I did here so don't bother.

Best regards,

T
