Iphone 4 - Not connecting to wifi (incorrect password)

Hi there,

I seem to be having problems connecting my iphone to my home network, it keeps coming up with the error "incorrect password for STEVE_NETGEAR" - The strange thing is that i have two iphone 4's and the other one connects to my home network perfectly, so its just my one that does not - However, it still connects to other networks just fine, so its just my home network that it doesnt connect to... i really dont understand this issue... very strange! I've tried everything:-

1) Mac Filtering
2) Disable passkey
3) Used 128 HEx
4) Reset the iphone back to factory settings
5) Reset Network settings
6) Upgraded to 4.1 OS
7) Changed the SSID
8) etc, etc, etc

None of which resolved the issue, i'm at a loss as to how one out of the two iphones can connect and the other cannot... Why can it connect to all other wifi networks but not my own... Could it maybe be a conflict between the two iphones?

If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help

Regards

SWM

so basically this is what everyone should do to make the iPhone 4 reconnect with ur home wifi...and yes it's the stupid router's fault, not iPhone 4 (as the Verizon idiots tell you).

This is a ONE step solution...all you have to do is press the "RESET" button on the back of ur router. Yup...that simple.

Before you do that, just go to ur router's IP configuration settings, look at all the devices connected to ur network from ur desktop or laptop computer. After you hit "reset" on the back of your router, come back to this and you should see that all those previous devices are no longer listed. That means ur reset was successful.Your iPhone should easily connect to ur wifi :-)

To check your Router IP configurations Settings:

  • Open ur browser, go to ur Router's IP configuration settings...192.168.1.1 (this isn't the same for everyone)
  • default username should be "admin" and default password is "password" "password1" or your router's Serial #....it is case sensitive....HINT: you may see notice that when you try to enter just ONE character in the password box, it shows up as multiple characters. This is an encryption to protect your password from people who look over your shoulders. Just ignore it, and type in "password." if this doesn't work, enter your router's serial # and it will grant you access!
  • I have verizon FiOS so I went under "My Network" which shows me which device is connected to my network.

:-) problem solved

I have been having the same issues. Bought a new time capsule to see if that would help and no luck. Had tried everything else suggested here. Sometimes iPhone would connect other times no luck.

Checked settings on the router by typing in its address like SaLmAn described. Noticed under advanced settings, LAN IP,

that the starting ip ended with 10 and the finishing ip ended with 19. We have 12 wireless devices so there were not enough unique iPs for everything. Changed ending ip to 25 and whala everything connect seamlessly.

We had the same problem. My wife's iPhone 4 would connect to every wireless network except our home network.

We seem to have solved the problem. When the phone requested the password we put in the network's WEP encryption key (instead of the router password.) The phone immediately connected to our home network.

Just to confirm, we then went to the router page (using one of our computers) and checked the DHCP client table. Sure enough, the phone is now there.

Hard to believe it could be this simple, but maybe this is the answer for at least some of the connection problems.

tried everything -----wow this has been a pain but i think i got it now... i (finally- and simply) "reset all settings" on the iphone and then reset the airport on the laptpo (turned the phone off while resetting the airtport). when i turned the phone back on it was connected...but it renamed the airport... done ...keep trying there doesnt seem to be one quick fix

hy lazer,

after having same problem as you and the reading you statements,i think i have found how to solve this issue for you and me both, here goes....

go to you router settings and change password so all deviced in your home are disconnect from your router, then change the router password, and reset network settings on phone, when phone is back on after resetting net settings and changing password, tring to connect to the router will not work(well from my experience),please just do as i typed ,then all you do is change the password again to original password you had in first place, and KBOOM it will work god willing,it did for me :-D

Having the same issue with my iPhone 4, my wife's iPhone 4 and all other devices are connecting without issues. The problem started this morning and nothing has been changed on the network or the iPhone. Also just discovered I can't connect to the wifi at work. Tried "forget network" and "renew lease" to no avail. Any ideas?
