When I first got my iPhone 3GS I made the mistake of subscribing to CNN text alerts. I was looking for news alerts, mostly I get garbage about people dying. Also 3AM alerts of people dying. Tiger Woods, Lady GAGA and such. I wanted real news! Now I can't get it to stop and it uses a lot of txt msg allotment. I have contacted CNN to no avail. They are confused.
Can I block them somehow? I have gone through settings and cannot see how to stop them without turning off my txt msg.
My iPhone is 3GS and all software is updated.
MacBook Pro 2.2 Ghz.,
Mac OS X (10.6.2),
iphone 3GS with updated software.
If it is TXT alerts and not a Push Notification from an app, it means you did subscribe at sometime to get them via their site or something.
Normally one needs only reply with the word "STOP" as a txt message back to them for most services like this.
If it is an App that you are getting Push Notifications then the settings for that are in the Push Notification settings.
Are these really SMS text messages that are saved in the usual way as an ongoing conversation in Messages? Or is this more like breaking news alerts that disappear after you read them?
I any case try going in Settings > Notifications (third down from the top) and see if you can turn off CNN notifications.
Then call them and complain that their SMS service is costing you money and state you have proof you have requested it to stop and by sending you messages still they are breaking the law.
Wow just like Bill Murray's Groundhog Day. Document all this with screenshots showing your STOP text message. And please let us all know when and under what circumstances the assault ended.
