This printer was a free rebate with purchase of a Mac Mini. It prints very nicely. But it does not scan. I went to the H/P website, and discovered that this printer/scanner is not compatible with Mac OS 10.6.4
The website gave tips to go through the Mac to scan, the preview nor printer options work. Below are the tips. Any help is appreciated.

Method one: Scan from the Preview application
Click the Apple Preview icon in the dock, or open Preview from the Applications folder.
From the Preview File pull-down menu, select Import from Scanner .
Select your product from the list displayed.
The scan interface opens.
NOTE: You can click Show Details to view settings and options. 9.
Method two: Scan from the Image Capture application
Click the Apple Image Capture icon in the dock, or open Image Capture from the Applications folder.
Select your product from the list displayed. If you are using a networked device, select it from the Shared list.
The scan interface opens.

Method three: Scan from Print & Fax > Printer browser
From the Apple menu, select System Preferences .
Click Print & Fax .
Select your product from the list displayed. The Print & Fax options are displayed.
Click the Scan tab, and click Open Scanner . The Printer Browser window opens.
Click Scan to start a scan.
The scan interface opens.
NOTE: You can click Show Details to view settings and options. 13.
If the Scan or Print icons do not appear in the Printer Browser window toolbar, delete the current HP printer, and add a new one. To do this, follow these steps:
Close the Printer Browser window to return to the Print & Fax preference pane. Or, go directly to the System Preferences > Print & Fax pane.
Select your HP product from the list displayed.
Click the - sign at the bottom of the list to remove the product from the list.
Click the + sign at the bottom of the list to add the product back to the list.
Select your HP product, and click Add .
