iTunes 10 not getting CD track names

Hi,

When I insert a CD I just get "Audio CD" and "Track 01" etc... Automatically retrieve track names from internet is checked and Advanced>Get track names does not work either. Internet connection is fine.

I'm on a Win XP machine using iTunes 10.0.1.22 at the moment.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Same problem. I've tried "Get Track Names" manually, sometimes it tells me that "some of the track names are not available from CDDB", other times it silently does nothing.

This is my work computer, but I've tried it both with VPN and without. IE/Firefox work fine (proxy set up properly), and even iTunes seems to have no trouble accessing the store. What's up?

I'm having the same issues. Noticed it first on iTunes 10 and hoped the update would fix it. I have also tried most of the work arounds I have seen.

Deselect automatic look up from internet and try manually.
Try the repair option on the control panel add/remove programs.
Delete the CD Info file from the library.

Nothing.

Any other good ideas out there?

Yep, just to add my woes and having the same issue regarding not finding CD info, how annoying I have an almost FULL iPOD and the thought of mucking about with the libraries etc scares me, was 2 months work filling the thing.

The only thing I have done to iTunes in the last week was add a new iPAD and made syncing with iPOD manual onto my itunes system?

So help appreciated - would like to know how wide spread this is.

Ok.

So here's the thing. I have had this issue since I downloaded 10.0 and the update didn't help.

I have iTunes loaded onto a work laptop and presumably all the firewalls and everything else that goes with it.

The other day I have my laptop working on my home network (probably through different proxy settings or the like) chuck in a CD and hey presto, track names come through!

Now I don't know exactly what the differences are between my work access and home access but I do know that before the 10.0 update I could obtain track names at either location. Now it seems that I can only get them from home.

Does this mirror anyone else's situation?

Cheers

I have the same issue - Itunes has never read the track list (known as CD-TEXT) off the burned CD. With commercial CDs Itunes does a lookup - it doesn;t read any listing on the CD.

You may see intermittent behaviour - because if you burned the CD on that Itunes installation, it remembers the tracklist. Again it doesn't read the CD-TEXT burned on the CD.

And yes Windows Media Player does all of this - for once Microsoft has the better media product.

I was expecting Itunes v10 to address this - but apparently not.

There is a script to work on MACOS - but it, in turn, uses a utility to read the track list. It is not a Windows feature.

This was what I found when I looked at this a year ago.

Hi, I have just upgraded to iTunes v10.0.1.22 and had the same problem... iTunes would not find track names when trying to import some original music CDs. A poster earlier suggested running the v10 installation again and selecting the Repair option. This seemed the most sensible thing to try first, so I did this and it fixes the problem. iTunes is now finding the track names from Gracenotes.

I would guess the initial installation of 10.0.1.22 is not quite right and the module that goes to the Internet to find the tracks doesn't do so. Running Repair fixes the problem.
