iPhone 4 Home button issue...

I have tried to read on here and find out if anyone is having any home button issues but I can't seem to find anyone with the issue I am having. When I press my home button it works about 95% of the time. However, about 5-10 times a day it will not register the push at all and I have to push it again and it works. It's not something that really bothers me its just rather annoying. Anyone know anything about this? Also, has anyone noticed when you do push the home button it takes just a couple more seconds to close the app than the older iPhones? I have a 3G still and when I push the home button it instantly goes to the home page. Its just a little delayed with the IP4. I have compared it several times. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if its all just my phone because I haven't been able to compare my IP4 to anyone else's. I'm just wondering if all of this is any reason at all to get my phone replaced. I'm thinking it's not at all but I am just wondering who all else is having a problem or noticing a delay. I don't have any other issues with my phone. Just the home button. & if it helps any I have had my phone since day 1 of launch. I pre-ordered it.

Alright, it worked now and it only took some 5 secs. 🙂

It's responding perfectly, but as I said it became a lot better since 4.3.4 so I'll give it a couple of days to see how it goes.

Glad it worked for you.

I found it on a website discussing the problem...in the comments section. Seems most "fixes" involve rebooting/restoring/apple store trip. This method seems to be a good fix, so I don't know why Apple isn't providing the info...

It doesn't work for me, i can't hold the home button lightly, it just doesn't detect anything, i need to press it hard but your fix didn't work, i really think i need to send my iphone 4 to apple because compared to my girlfriend's iphone 3gs (she has it for more than a year) mine needs to be pressed a lot harder :(

I also thought it didn't work, but it does.

This is what I did... open Photos, hold Power Button till slider appears, release Power Button, press Home Button gently (don't be afraid to press it, just don't hammer it, press without making any effort), hold it still and you'll get back to the Home Screen after a few seconds. It'll be fine then! Trust me.

Yeah, it's true. At first I was making a conscious effort to press it lightly and it wouldn't work. It's only when I did it casually that it happened. 🙂

I've tried like 10 times, it does go back to the home screen but the home button is still unresponsive when pressed normally

Ah, ok, that's a different matter. Well, I can't say for sure that this does indeed work. As I said, my button was behaving relatively well since the update to 4.3.4. It "feels" even better now, though, so I'm led to believe that it did something. If it doesn't work for you, then maybe you do have a hardware issue (dust?).

I've been hoping that each of the recent releases would help but with 4.3.5 yesterday I pretty much gave up hope that Apple would address the problem. I tried this and it has helped so far this morning, I've had only one time since recalibration that it didn't respond as it should. Glad I saw the post with the fix. Thanks!

I think i have dust, ive tried blowing air into it, it does seem to work for a Short period of time but it comes back, do you think i shoulf send it to apple ?

Yeah, I guess so... if you have an Apple store nearby, you definitely should - the consensus is that they will give you a new one, which shouldn't have a problem.

This was never an option for me though, as we don't have Apple stores in Portugal - therefore, no magic Genius appointments. 😟

So I kept trying every possible solution and, so far, this was the best one.

Well, as I said I can't share any similar experience, so I have no idea how it's supposed to happen. Best of luck, though! This issue with the Home button is (was?) seriously frustrating - I felt like throwing my iPhone against the wall sometimes.

One of my favorite experiences with the button issue is trying to show someone something cool with my iPhone and the home button wouldn't respond....black screen until I pressed the lock button. That's really cool, DOH!
