iPhone 4, iOS 4
@ jonathanfromnowhere: I would suggest that instead of "blowing air into it" maybe you'd want to try sucking dust out of it? Like this guy explained here: goo.gl/OYZ8v 😉
Indeed! 🙂
I almost lost my mind once when I had to keep switching back and forth between apps to copy+paste some stuff... I was pressing Home like a maniac and with so much pressure that I thought I was gonna smash the sensor or whatever's under it.
Which makes me appreciate even more the fact that it's working so flawlessly now (it's a testimony of sorts to its durability at least!)
Right... I tried the "blowing" thing a million times (through the actual button, through the dock connector, etc.) and it only got marginally better and not for too long.
Guys, I think the only fix for that problem is the replacement. I replaced mine 2 months ago and the problem is gone... AND if there are any anomalies, it will be caused by the OS. After every iOS update, my ip4 is getting slower :/
yeah i'm gonna get mine replaced but how long did it take when you sent your iphone to apple (if you did) and did you get a new one or refubished one ? my home button is the only issue i have and i don't want to get other issues on another iphone
i won't try because even if i did, it will come back some day and when the next iphone comes out, I will sell mine and if it has issues i'll lose money :S
My friend bought his ip4 on the same day in the same store. High street store. 30 minutes drive. He replaced his and the home button works fine. Unfortunately, his screen looks "cooler", there is more blue. Weird, the difference is quite visible...
I've replaced my ip4 3 times, so this is my 4th ip4 and everytime it was a brand new device.
When I replaced my ip4 for the first time, it was about 1 month after I bought it. July, August '10 maybe. I replaced it because... I was loosing signal and because there was dirt underneath black glass near the home button. The home button itself was working fine. They wouldn't replace it because of the signal issue, but they did replace it, because of the dirt 😝
The second time I replaced my ip4, about 2.5 months ago, was because of the home button. The problem with the home button disappeared, but this time, I found a tiny piece of dust right in the middle of the screen, visible anywhere you go. Looked almost like a dead, black pixel. Then after about a month time, just before my warranty ran out I decided to replace it again 😝 They replaced it for another brand spanking new iPhone 4, but now... .... the two top corners of the screen have a slight backlight leakage :/ the corners look a little bit brighter, like it's not glued properly to the digitizer. Very annoying. My warranty exprired, so now I have to live with it. Every iPhone 4 is different :/ Home button allingment, some are deeper, some stick out, sharp... The same with the camera, some stick out, some are deeper. Volume and power buttons are loose ;/ and off course every iPhone features the "Death Grip Mode" 😝
lol i can't believe you really had 4 different iphones i guess you just have no luck :S
horridly dissapointed i have to say!! i bought my new iphone4 yesterday and today i had to return it to the store (JB hifi) they wouldnt replace it as they said apple want to check them before replacing !! (how dumb) this means i now have to make an appointment at the apple store and make yet another trip before i get this sorted. I will be demanding a replacement phone and will make sure i give it a good going over before i leave the store so that i am not inconvenienced any further.
my question is for a company as big as apple - why do they continue to sell these dodgie handsets - why dont they re-call them and fix the issue !! instead of selling known faulty units to consumers and making them do all the hard work.
i will send my iphone 4 tomorrow so i should get a new one in 10 days max, i'll keep in touch
i got my iphone 4 back in october, came with 4.1 and was running fine until about a month ago. the issue is extremely temperamental. I finally updated to 4.3.5 last week in hopes that it was erradicate this problem, but unfortunately still persists.
i'm taking my phone to the genius bar 1st thing tomorrow morning. I'll only exchange it if they give me a brand new (in retail box) iP4. If not then i guess ill just stick it out and hopefully iOS 5 fixes this 😟
ios 5 won't fix anything, i had the betas til the4th, it is a hardware issue, you must replace it
They probably won't give you a new one (if they do let me know) but refurbished ones can sometimes be better than new ones because everything is changed (no scratches, battery..) and everything is checked
yeah i understand apple refurbs go through meticulous checks, i'm just that type of person that doesnt like refurbs.
The thing is, i'm ambivelant with replacing my ip4 b/c although this issue is a big niusance when it does occur, it is not enough reason for me to replace it w/ a refurb. If there were additional defects that accompanied this home button issue then that would warrant me to exachange my iphone regardless of refurb or new..
I'll keep you posted on how it goes tomorrow.
i used not to like refurbished ones but i don't care, i wish i could have a new but if i don't, i just hope it will look like a new one and no more issue with home button
i bought mine in australia. same issue. thing is i have taken up a new job in Malaysia. Guess what? Apple says I have to fly back to Australia to get it fixed. Ridiculous!
