iPhone 4 Home button issue...

I have tried to read on here and find out if anyone is having any home button issues but I can't seem to find anyone with the issue I am having. When I press my home button it works about 95% of the time. However, about 5-10 times a day it will not register the push at all and I have to push it again and it works. It's not something that really bothers me its just rather annoying. Anyone know anything about this? Also, has anyone noticed when you do push the home button it takes just a couple more seconds to close the app than the older iPhones? I have a 3G still and when I push the home button it instantly goes to the home page. Its just a little delayed with the IP4. I have compared it several times. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if its all just my phone because I haven't been able to compare my IP4 to anyone else's. I'm just wondering if all of this is any reason at all to get my phone replaced. I'm thinking it's not at all but I am just wondering who all else is having a problem or noticing a delay. I don't have any other issues with my phone. Just the home button. & if it helps any I have had my phone since day 1 of launch. I pre-ordered it.

Had this issue for a few weeks and it became worse and worse. My iPhone 4 was replaced without question by O2 (I'm in the UK) and the new one is totally fine.

The replacement is said (by O2) to be refurbished and didn't come in a retail box. The serial begins with 83027 (suggesting it really is a refurbished phone) but it is absolutely indistinguishable from a new one.

They replaced my iPhone 4 on the spot after the Genius tried to get out of the phone app and it took nice button pushes. He gave me a new phone out of the box. I hope nobody get my old iPhone as a refurbished.

pointless.... the problem is the telco... bought it there..

when they tried.. there is no problem.. must understand that this is intermittent and that is why it is so annoying... if always fail.. it is easy to convince them.

but it still looks like a bug in the OS.. the respond time give to the home button just 'sometime' feel like 'hang'.. but after that is ok.. sometime hang until it thinks you double click.. so the task manager come out.

to me.. it feels like the iOS is in the sleep mode once in awhile...

I called Apple this morning and they offered me two options since there is not a nearby retail store, 1) I will have to send my iPhone for them to repair or 2) They will proceed with Advance Replacement Service and send me a new iPhone but I will have to send my faulty device back within 10 days and also pay a fee of $29.

Besides that, they also offered me to purchase the Apple Protection Plan for $69 and the $29 replacement fee will be waived. I'm wondering what should I do ? Any advices?

Well to add more confusion to the mix....I have noticed something over the past couple of days that indicates it may not be a hardware issue. For the past two mornings I have pressed the home button but the unlock screen did not appear. However, the lights were off in the room when I pressed the button, and each time I noticed the screen backlight turn on (albeit with a black colour) and then turn off again. So the phone registered the home button press, but didn't go to the unlock screen. Next press it went straight there.

I'm really hoping iOS4.2 will fix this issue!

UPDATE:

My 'like new' phone apple sent me for advanced replacement ended up working fine for the first day. Second day, luckily I hadn't shipped the one ive had for 5 months back, I plugged my head phones and the headset jack didn't work. You had to twist and tilt to one side and it was all screwed up. I immediately called back and told them I was just going to send back the screwed up phone they sent me and keep the one that I had that actually worked other than the button sticking. I reset my settings on the phone I have always had and the delay of the button is no more. I do still get the random when I push it nothing happens but its better to have a phone that has just that issue than a phone that has a crap ton of other issues. I had to almost fight on the phone because they wanted me to keep the phone they had sent me and I told them NO and that I was keeping the phone that was mine. After a very long wait and talking to the supervisor I finally just said all I want is to just pretend that I never called the first time to get it replaced. So needless to say, I am sending back the phone they sent me as a replacement and keeping the phone that I've always had that has very little problems compared to what it could be.

looks like something is wrong with the iOS4.. that make the system take the respond time abit weird manner..

when u press the home button, it is like something 'hang' and run at back groun so nothing is run, then u thought is no respond u click again, then this time the respond back to ios that u click the first time and the last time.. so it double click and the task bar appear..

i am quite sure there are some respond problem.. and not hardware...
