Automating my photoshop cs4 PSD to JPG workflow?

hi there
i wonder if someone could advise me?

I am currently 'exporting' a large number of .psd files to jpg

I am opening the psd files on my macbook with photoshop cs4, going to 'save for web and devices' and then saving them at the exact resolution and dimensions of the psd and at maximum jpg quality

i have been doing this all by hand and since there are literally hundreds of these files, it is taking me quite some time.

could someone recommend me a way to automate this process? i have considered using actions but think that perhaps an apple script could be applied faster, as i could put them all into a folder?

i have never used automation much and so would appreciate any insights you'd like to share with me. attempts at photoshop actions have been sketchy, as photoshop sometimes 'misses' a step, creating problems in the workflow.

perhaps an application instead? 🙂

many thanks for your generous expertise.

Building an action or a script is a nice way to do it because it's completely customizable, but it does take some labor to put together.

A simpler/easier way is to use the Image Processor in Photoshop. You can select a whole folder, or select many specific files in Adobe Bridge, and just shovel them into the Image Processor and get a folder full of JPEGs out the other end. See this link:
