Macbook logs out by itself

Because there are no Mac viruses for it to detect. All it does is consume resources and potentially cause instability. If you want to detect Windows malware, use ClamXav.

I don't want to get off-topic, but I am interested in protecting my Windows installation under Parallels. Would ClamXav work for that?

If you move files into your Windows guest from the host OS, you can check them for known malware with ClamXav. It won't check files you download from within Windows.

Three weeks after uninstalling Boom on both my Macs, I'm happy to report I haven't experienced a single instance of the problem. I have not uninstalled Sophos (just haven't gotten around to it), so it seems that Boom was definitely the culprit.

I can't just say that deinstalling BOOM does it for me, but my 3 months old MBP-i7's spontaneous restarts certainly started after installing BOOM.

I'm optimistic, Rolf. I have not had a single instance of spontaneous restart on either of my two Macs since uninstalling Boom.

Same problem with MBP Retina (no Boom installed).

I had 3 unexected logout in less than 3 hours.

The MBP retina have 2 days of life: the only apps installed are:

XCode, Alfred, Chuck, DropBox, Cheatsheet, Chrome, KeePassX, Twitter...

Any advice?

I don't have either Boom or a newer MBP Retina, but this problem just showed up today. I do have an external monitor hooked up, but I've had this configuration for years with no problem. Aargh.

I'm having the same problem with my macbook pro w/retina. I just got it 2 days ago and it has happened at least 20 times, its getting pretty anoying. Does it happen to anyone as much as it has happened to me?? I DONT have an external monitor hooked up, and no windows anything running on it.

I can't speak to the problems with the 2011 MBPs, but for the Retina at least, I've had the same problem. I've read that people suspect the graphics switching from one card to another causes the issue, but I tried using gfxCardStatus and that did not prevent the random logouts. Other people speculated it was the scaled resolutions, and that using "Best for Retina" fixed it. I tried using that resolution as well as the 1920x1200 I wanted, but both got the crashes.

The only solution that has worked for me so far is to work at the native resolution (2880x1800) and blow up windows to a more comfortable zoom level. I've been using SetRes to do so - you can find it if you search for SetResX download and follow the osxdaily link.

I am using 10.7.4, but I believe the errors persist across all Lions.

Almost two years later...

Same problem here with MBP Retina (Mid-2012, Mavericks 10.9.4) and a Thunderbolt Display connected: Sudden logout (mostly just before sleep mode, when screens have already turned black but system is still "awake"). Depending on what applications are open, I can still hit "Cancel", but if it's just apps that don't require any saving the Mac will logout and instantly log back in presenting the log-in screen (although in the system preferences I've chosen to log me in automatically).

Happens like three or four times a day.

Has anyone gotten any further on this issue?
